Description

(No Model.)
J. N. MOEHN.
v PACKAGE BINDER FOR TOILET PAPER.
No. 583,918. Patented June 8,1897.
UNITED STATES PATENT rnicn.
PACKAG E-BINDER FOR TOILET-PAPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 583,918, dated June 8, 1897.
Application filed October 1d, 1896. Serial No. 608,859. (No model.)
To aZZ wiwnt it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHNN. MOEHN, a citizen of the United States, residing at'Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of \Visconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Package-Binders for Toilet- Paper Packages, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in package-binders for toilet-paper packages.
The objects of my invention are, first, to provide a simple form of metallic clasp or binder for holding the sheets together, and, second, to provide a form of binder which will when in use form a metallic shield for the reception of the package-supporting pin of a paper-retaining cabinet, and a cutting edge for slitting the rear end of the sheets as they are withdrawn from the package.
In the following description reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figurel is aside view of a package of toiletpaper as it is held together by my binder and supported on the pressure-plate of a paper retaining cabinet. Fig. 2 is atop view of the package-showing the clamping-lips. Fig. 3 is afront view of the binder, with dotted lines indicating the position of the snpportingpin therein. Fig. dis a section View of the same, drawn on the line :1: a; of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a View of the metal plate before it is formed into the binder, with a dotted line showing the position of the bend.
Like parts are identified. by the same reference-letters throughoutthe several views.
The binder is formed of a rectangular strip of metal doubled upon itself longitudinally at one side of its central line to form the leaves A and B. The ends are slitted along the line of folding to form the lips O and D, leaving a central or unslitted portion equal in length to the depth of the package. The folded strip is inserted through an opening made in the package with the edges to the rear, and the lips O and D are bent over laterally, thus binding the sheets together. It will be observed that the edge of the wider leaf A fornisa cutting edge, which facilitates the removal of the sheets by slitting the rear end, and that the edge of the leaf B is bent inwardly against the leaf A, the two leaves thusforining an opening between them adapted to receive the package-supporting pin when the package is inserted in the cabinet.
Having thus described niyinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to. secure by Letters Patent, is-
A binder for paper packages comprising the leaves A and B, one formed wider than the other, and the lips O and D formed on each end of the leaves A andB respectively, the parts being all formed integrally from a single sheet of metal folded to produce a. shield or socket adapted to receive the supporting-pin of a paper-retaining cabinet, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
JOHN N. MOEHN. A Witnesses:
L. 0. WHEELER, JAs. 1-3. ERWIN.
