Description

(No Model) G. H. McKAY.
BRACKET FOR FOLDING TABLE LEAVES.
UNITED STATES PATENT GEEICE.
GEORGE HENRY'MCKAY, OF GLASGOW, SCOTLAND.
BRACKET FOR FOLDING-TABLE LEAVES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 582,480, dated May 1 1, 1897.
Application filed July 13, 1896.
T0 aZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE HENRY Mo- KAY, ironmonger, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain and Ireland, and a resident of 40% Dumbarton Road, in the city of Glasgow, Scotland, have invented an Improvement in Bracket-Hinges, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in bracket-hinges for folding tables, bookboards, ironing-boards, and other analogous purposes, and has for its object to combine with the bracket a peculiar construction of hinge for connecting the leaf with the table or to the stand on which the book-board or ironing-board is connected, so that theycan be fixed by any one with very little trouble.
My improvement consists in certain novel features of construction of bracket-hinges hereinafter described and claimed.
I will now describe my invention with relation to the accompanying sheet of drawings, in which-- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved bracket-hinge, showing it in connection with a bracket. Fig. 2 is a side view of the bracket-hinge, showing it in connection with a bracket, a table, and a leaf supported on the bracket. Fig. 3 is a front view of the same.
E is a table-rail, E is a table-top, and E a table-leaf.
A is an ordinary bracket having a longitudinal recess A and a hinged vertical leaf B, formed with a lateral top extension 13, to which is hinged a horizontal leaf 0 by means of a pivot-pin D. The hinged vertical leaf Serial No. 599,022. (No model.)
B has holes for the insertion of screws for securing it to the rail E, and the lateral top extension 13' and the horizontal leaf 0 have screw-holes stamped out for the insertion of the screws which secure the top extension to the table-top and the horizontal leaf to the table-leaf, so that the latter can be folded on the former or from the former onto the latter.
The longitudinal recess A in the bracket receives the edge of the horizontal leaf which forms a stop to the bracket.
Having thus described my invention, the following is what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A bracket-hinge comprising the bracket A, having a vertical leaf B formed with a lateral top extension B and a horizontal leaf 0 hinged to the top extension, substantially as described.
2. A bracket-hinge comprising the bracket A, having a longitudinal recess A, and a vertical leaf B formed with a lateral top extension B, and a horizontal leaf 0, hinged to the top extension, substantially as described.
3. The combination of the table-rail E, the table-top E, the table-leaf E the bracket A, having a vertical leaf B formed with a lateral top extension B, and a horizontal leaf 0, hinged to the top extension; substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE HENRY McKAY. \Vitnesses:
JOHN LIDDLE, J QSEPH HENRY PEARSON.
