COMBINATION TABLE A. Nl'J IRONING EGARD.
Application filed July 2,
/o all 'whom z'z may concern.'
Be it known that I, DANIEL B. BRroiiLnY, a citizen or' the vUnited States, residing at lFarren, in the county of Trumbull and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Tables and lroning Boards, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
The present invention relates to ironing boards and tables, and aims to provide a table of novel and improved construction having combined therewith an ironing board, whereby the table can be used for ordinary purposes, and can be readily converted into an ironing table when desired.
A further object is the provision of a table having a section oit its top adapted to be raised, and an ironing board mounted in a novel manner within the table under the top thereof for use when said top section is raised.
With the foregoing and other objects in View, which will be apparent as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes can be made within the scope oi' what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a plan view of the table with the top section of the table raised for using the ironing board, the board being shown in one position in full lines, and in another position in dotted lines.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 3, showing the top section of the table down, and showing the ironing board in raised position in dotted lines.
Fig. 3 is a cross section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2, showing the top section in raised position in dotted lines.
Any suitable table, with or without drop side leaves, can be used for the purposes of the present invention, and the -table has its top divided longitudinally into the central broad section 4, and the narrow edge sections 5. The sections 5 are secured on the longitudinal rails 6 and legs 7 and the top section or leaf 4, when down, seats on the 1923. serial No. 649,110.
end rails 8 of the table frame, for the ordinary use of the table 1n the kitchen or elsewhere. The rear edge of the sections 4 hinged to the rear section 5, as at 9, so-
that the section 4 can be swung upwardly to expose the ironing board 10 which is located under the table top within the frame.
ln order to support the ironing board within the table, bearing cleats 11 are secured to the under side of the board near the wider end thereof, and are mounted for turning and sliding movement on a straight cross rod 12 located near one end of the table and having its ends secured within the plates 13 secured to the inner sides of the rails 6, so that said rod remains fixed within the :trame of the table below the upper edge thereof. The board 10 bears near its smaller or narrower end on a cross bar 14 secured to the rails 6 near the opposite end of the table. The board 10 can thus be slid laterally on the rod 12 and bar 14 to diierent positions, for the convenience of the user, and the narrower end or tip of the board can also be raised oil of the bar 14, as seen in dotted lines in Fig. 2, for slipping garments on and off of the board.
A longitudinal hanger 15 for clothes or other articles is secured at its ends to the under side of the top section 4 near the fon ward edge thereof, whereby said hanger can be used for supporting garments or other articles while ironing, when said top section 4 is in raised position.
In folding the table for ordinary use, the board 10 is slid rearwardly, whereby the hanger 15 can move beyond the forward edge of the board, as seen in Fig. 3. More than one of the hangers can be provided if desired.
The mounting of the board 10 is exceedingly simple and can be used in various tables, to enable the present improvements to be incorporated in such tables easily. Furthermore, the table is neat in appearance and the addition of the ironing board does not make the table unsightly or encumbered.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is A table comprising a frame having supporting legs, a top on said frame having a section adapted to be raised, a straight cross iod having its ends secured Within said rod and bar With its ends spaced from the frame neer one end thereof so as to remain ends of the frame, the ironing board being iiXed Within the frame below the upper edge seatable on said bar and having portions i'o- 10 thereof, a cross bar Carried by the frame tatably and slidabiy engaging said rod.
Within the same near the opposite end In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my thereof, andr afnvironing board iindensaid.signature.
