ATTACHli/l ENT FOR TABLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 581,681, dated April 27, 1897.
Application filed February 15,1897. Serial No. 623,479. (No model.)
To ctZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN SHAUER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Leavenworth, in the county of Leavenworth and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Attachment for Tables, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improved attachment for sewing-machine tables; and it has for its object the production of a receptacle adj ustably secured to the table and adapted to receive and hold the material as it leaves the table, and thereby preventing the material from getting soiled through contact with the floor.
The invention will first be described in connection with the accompanying drawings and then pointed out in the claims.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a perspective view of my invention, the receptacle being shown in outline. Fig. 2is avertical central sectional view of my invention, showing the same applied to a table.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a receptacle comprising a wire frame 1, suitably covered by line wirenetting, as shown. The outer end 2 of this receptacle slopes inwardly from the top to the bottom, for a purpose hereinafter described.
13 represents a bracket comprising a vertical member 8, an upper member 4:, and a lower member 5, these latter members 6X tending laterally at a right angle in opposite directions from the respective ends of the vertical member The lower member is designed to support the receptacle A, a wire loop 6, depending from the bottom of the receptacle, being designed to snugly embrace the lower member 5 and prevent accidental movement of the receptacle. lhe front wall of the receptacle bears against the vertical member 3 of the bracket and is secured thereto by a catch 0.
The upper member at of the bracket is formed with a longitudinal slot 7, designed to engage the shank of a screw 8, taking into the table C, a nut 9 securely holding the bracket to the table. The vertical member 3 of the bracket is of such height that when the receptacle is in place the upper edge of the receptacle will be on a plane with the surface of the table, thus insuring the entrance of material into the receptacle.
By means of the longitudinal slot 7 the receptacle may be adjusted at any desired distance from the table, thus permitting the receptacle to receive heavy and stiff material, which will project some distance from the table before entering the receptacle.
XVhen the receptacle has been secured in place, the material from the table will project some little distance therefrom before turning down into the receptacle, in fact will come into contact with the outer end of the receptacle first. By inclining this outer end I am enabled to cause the material to be fed into the bottom of the receptacle, as will be evident.
Although I have shown and described my invention as applied to sewing-machine tables, it is fully evident that it is equally ap plicable to tables used for cutting patterns, ironing-tables, and the like.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In an attachment for tables, a receptacle having its outer end inclined, and provided on its bottom with a depending loop, and a bracket, said bracket comprising a vertical member, an upper member, and a lower member, said upper member being designed to be adj ustably secured to the table, the lower member supporting the receptacle, the loop on the receptacle being adapted to embrace said lower member and hold the receptacle in place thereon.
2. In an attachment for tables, the combi nation, with a table and a screw-threaded shank secured thereto, of a receptacle having its outer end inclined and provided 011 its bottom with a depending loop, a bracket comprising a vertical member, an upper member, and a lower member, the upper member being formed with a longitudinal slot adapted to engage said screw-threaded shank, and the lower member being adapted to pass through the loop on the receptacle and support the receptacle, the vertical member being of such height that when the receptacle is in place its upper edge will be on a plane with the table, substantially as described and for the purposes stated.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
J OIIN SI'IAUER.
