IRONING-TABLE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters ZPatent No. 572,519, dated December 8, 1896. Application filed February 3, 1896. Serial No. 577,842. (No model.)

To all whont it may concern:

Be it known that I, AUSTIN BENEDICT, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Merrill, in the county of Lincoln and State of \Visconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ironing-Tables and I do hereby declare that the followingis a full, clear, and exact description thereof.

The invention has for its object to provide a simple, economical ironing-table that may be readily taken apart to economize space in storage or transportation; and it consists in certain peculiarities of construction and combination of parts hereinafter set forth with reference to the accompanying drawings and subsequently claimed.

In the drawings, Figure 1 represents an elevation of my improved ironing-table, partly in section; and Fig. 2, aperspective view of said table.

Referring by letter to the drawings, A represents the base of my ironing-table, made from wood and preferably tapered at one end, the under side of this base being unobstructed in order to rest flat upon a floor. Bolted or otherwise rigidly secured to the upper side of the base, central of the same and nearest its broad extremity,is a metal bracket, herein shown as preferably comprising a lower horizontal arm B, having an eye-terminal b, and a diverging upper arm 0, having an eye-terminal 0, these eye-terminals being parallel to each other and in register with a suitable opening cl in said base.

' The eye-terminals of the bracket-arms and the base-opening constitute a socket for the reception of a standard D, that is preferably metal tubing and provided at its lower end with a longitudinal recess 6 for engagement of a lateral lug 3,, extending inward from eyeterminal b of*bracket-arm B, whereby the standard is held against rotation. collar 9 on the standard opposes the eye-terminal c of bracket-arm G to limit descent of said standard in its socket and to take the strain that would otherwise come upon the lug f aforesaid.

Fast on the upper end of the standard is a plate E, and held to this plate by screws or other suitable means is one end of the top or A stopironing-board F of the table, the same being of a contour and dimensions similar to the base A, with which it is parallel. Consequently the table as a whole is not liable to tilt in any direction, and skirts may be readily engaged with said top or board, there being sufficient elevation of the latterto prevent the work from coming into contact with said base or the floor upon which the table is stood, while at the same time there is ample 6o clearance forward of said standard.

The construct-ion of the bracket may be somewhat varied from what is herein shown in order to obtain a socket for the standard.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A knockdown ironing-table comprising a suitable base, a socket-bracket fast onthe base central of the same adjacent to an ex standard arranged to bear upon the aforesaid 7 5 socket to prevent strain on said lug, a plate on the upper end of the standard, and an ironing-board having one end thereof secured to the plate.

2. A knockdown ironing-table comprising a suitable base, a bracket that being fast on the base central of the same at one end thereof consists of a lower horizontal arm having an eye-terminal, a diverging upper arm, having an eye-terminal in register with the one afore- 8 5 said and a lateral lug in the lower eye of the bracket; a standard engageable with both eyes of said bracket and provided with a longitudinal recess engageable with said lug, a

plate on the upper end of the standard, and 0 an ironing-board having an end thereof secured to the plate.
