Description
April 21, 1959 G. s. PRATT HOLDER FOR NUTS AND BOLTS Filed Feb. 8, 1956 INVENTOR. GEORGE s. PRATT BY I 4 M. H. W
ATTORNEY United States Patent ice HOLDER FOR NUTS AND BOLTS George S. Pratt, Glenolden, Pa.
Application February 8, 1956, Serial No. 564,192
6 Claims. (Cl. 211-133) The present invention relates to a holder for nuts, bolts, washers and the like, and more particularlyfor a holder which may be clamped or otherwise secured to a work bench and which presents varying sizes of nuts, bolts, washers and the like to the user of the bench, either at the site of the holder or away therefrom.
In recent years there has been a considerable expansion of home workshops, so that carpentry, home repairs, and the like are being performed by far greater numbers of persons than in the past. Furthermore, rapid industrial mechanization and the adoption in many homes, shops, small plants and factories of a wide variety of 2,883,066 Patented Apr. 21, 1959 Figure 4 is a plan view from below of a bracket-contamer component of the present invention taken on line 4-4 of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is an exploded view of a bracket-container component of the present invention.
-14 being joined together by an interconnecting core 16.
The rod 12 is anchored to workbench 15 by means of flange 17 provided with a set screw 19.
As shown particularly in Figure 1 the interconnecting core 16 of rod 12 has a uniform diameter throughout its length and extends through each of slots 14 at the equipment, has led to the necessity of having available at one location a large variety of fasteners, such as nuts, bolts, washers and other small implements of graduated size. For rapid utility to be made of any holder for such implements, it is necessary that such implements be readily withdrawn according to their size at the users selection, and that when large amounts of such implements are needed, they may be readily transported away in their original container.
In the past, a variety of shelves, screw-cap jars, and the like have been devised in order to accomplish the storage of small implements. However, such prior devices have suffered from a number of serious handicaps. Thus, the use of shelves is very wasteful of space. Furthermore, shelving cannot be adequately associated with a Work bench which is located away from the walls of a room. The use of screw-cap containers leads to lengthy manipulations in order to remove a small number of implements, such lengthy manipulations being required both to effect the removal of the screw-capped container and its subsequent reinsertion.
This invention has as an object the provision of a holder for varying sizes of implements which will permit selective withdrawal of such implements therefrom.
This invention has as a further object the provision of a holder comprising a plurality of containers, each of which may be separately manipulated to a position from which implements may be withdrawn therefrom, and each of which may be removed selectively from the holder, so that its entire contents maybe transported to another location.
This invention has as yet another object the provision of a holder'for varying sizes of small implements, which holder can be easily mounted in position adjacent to or afiixed to a work bench or the like.
For the purpose of illustrating the invention there is shown in the drawings a form which is presently preferred; it being understood, however, thatthis invention is not limited to the precise arrangements and instrumentalities shown.
Figure 1 is an elevational view of one embodiment of the present invention.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the embodiment shown in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view on line 3-3 of Figure 2.
centermost portion thereof.
A cup-shaped container 30, preferably made of transparent plastic, such as methyl methacrylate is fixedly secured as by a basal anchorage machine screw 32 and nut 33 to the upper surface of flat portion 20.
It will be noted, particularly in Figure 3 that the axial height of each of slots 14 is but slightly greater than the thickness of flat portion 20, so that fiat portion 20 may be inserted by means of notch 24 into the slots 14 of rod 12. When so inserted bracket 18 is retained in position when core 16 is wedged into notch 24.
The use of holder 10 is as follows:
A plurality of brackets 18 are vertically mounted on rod 12 with their containers 30 disposed one above the other. Preferably, each container 30v should contain implements of a given-size, with the gradations in size a substantial number or all of the implements within a mum use to be made of the edge portions of a yvork- 1 The present inventionmay be embodied inother spebench, and a plurality of such holders may be spaced adjacent a given edge or edges of a workbench to achieve satisfactory storage and classification of a large number of varying size implements.
cific forms without departing from the spirit or essential attributes thereof and, accordingly, reference should be made to the appended claims, rather than to the foregoing specification as indicating the scope of the in vention.
