Description
UNITED STATES PATENT' OFFICE.
WILLIAM J. SHAW, OF YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO.
BOUQUET-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming' part 0f Letters :Patent N0. 580,735, dated. April. 13, 1897.
ApplaiOIl i165- Iebruary 5,1897. Serial No. 622,130. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, IVILLIAM J. SHAW, a citizen of the United States, residing at Youngstown, in the county of Mahoning and State of Ohio, have invented certainnew and useful Improvements in Bouquet- Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to holders for buttonhole-bouquets and is a device adapted to attach the same to the dress, comprising the several parts to be hereinafter more fully described.
In making this description I will make use of the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of my complete invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical section thereof on the line 2 2. Fig. 3 is a similar section on the line 3 3. Fig. 4 is a segregated View of the locking device of the invention.
In the several views of the invention the same numerals indicate the same parts.
l represents a cup, preferably of metal, but which may, if desired, be of shell, ivory, or other similar material. At the top of this cup lis an outwardly-bent lip 2, obviating danger of cutting the flowers, and at the back of the cup is a pin 3, secured thereto and adapted to attach the cup to the garment.
At the base and back part of the cup l is secured a lug 4f, from which project the lat- `eral parallel steps 5, between which are pivotally secured the arcuate arms G and 6, preferably made of rounded wire. The arms 6 are so disposed that they open toward each other and when pressed together will embrace the stems of Iiowers proj ectingthrough the cup 1. The arms 6 and 6a are alined on the rivet '7 passing through the holes 8, in such a manner that the arm 6 will at its free end slope downward and the arm 6a at its free end slope upward. Nevertheless the free ends will meet on the same plane as at the rivet ends, and consequently as the free ends pass each other there will result a friotional contact Where the arms cross each other, such contact increasing in its frictional resistance, forming a frictional lock for the said arms.
Having fully described my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent and claim 1. A bouquet-holder, comprising a cup, an attaching-pin, and the pivoted arms at the bottom of said cup, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. A bouquet-holder, comprising a cup, the
pin thereof, the pivoted arcuate arms at the bottom thereof, the said arms pressing each other in such manner as to form a frictionlock, substantially as described.
3. Abouquet-holder, comprisinga cup with a flaring top, the pin thereof, and the pivoted arcuate arms at the bottom of the said cup, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I ax my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM J. SHAW. IVitnesses:
ANTHONY STEEANSKI, A. LINCOLN ROWLAND.
