mfiwi. r I I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RICHARD PREUSS AND LOUIS LEIIZIGER, OF BRESLAU, GERMANY.
-DEVICE FOR FASTENING CURTAlN-ROSETTES, 840., TO WALLS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 577,449, dated February 23, 1897.
' Application filed February 24, 1896. Renewed October 31, 1896. Serial No. 610,760. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, RICHARD PREUSS, building engineer, of 12 Paradiesstrasse, and Lows LEIPZIGER, merchant, of 84. Hofohenstrasse, Breslau, in the Province of Silesia, Kingdom of Prussia, German Empire, have invented new and useful Improvements in Devices for Fastening Curtain-Rosettes and Similar Articles to the Wall, of Which the following is a specification.
0 ur invention consists of two jaws provided with fastening-hooks, which jaws are connected with each other by a hinge and are kept under tension by a spring.
In the accompanying drawings, in which like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts, Figure 1 shows a longitudinal section of the device; Fig. 2, a front view; Fig. 3, the mode of fastening the device to the Wall. Fig. 4 represents a special constructional form of the jaws.
On their inner side the jaws a are each provided with a bar 6, possessing pointed hooks or teeth 0. The two jaws are connected by a hinge 01, about whose pin 6 one or more spiral springs f are wound, the ends of which are secured to the jaws. This spring tends to keep the jaws a always closed and is put under tension when the jaws are opened. In order to fix the device to a corner of a wall, the jaws a are opened and the fasteninghooks c are pressed into the wall. By reason of the tension of the spring f the jaws a are thus firmly pressed against the wall, so that when using comparatively weak hooks a safe and durable fastening will be obtained. One or both jaws a are provided with an eye, in
which a rosette h or the like is secured.
The described device possesses the material advantage in that in fastening the same the wall will not sustain any perceptible injury, the fastening may be effected easily and conveniently, and may be severed with equal facility.
The device is very portable, and may be at tached to any wall forming a corner, to doorposts, and the like.
By making the jaws of appropriate form an elegant and ornate appearance may be given to the device. For instance, the form of a leaf, as shown in Fig. 4, appears particularly suitable for the jaws.
The device may of course be made of any appropriate material.
' Having now described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A device for fastening curtains and the like, consisting of two jaws a provided with fastening-hooks b which jaws are adapted to turn about a hinge d and are held together by a spring-connecting part (spiral spring f) and one or both of which are provided with one or more eyes, into which a rosette h or the like is screwed for the specified purpose and in the described manner.
In witness whereof we have hereunto signed our names in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
RICHARD PREUSS. LOUIS LEIPZIGER.
Witnesses EWALD BOEHM, HERRMANN BARTSCH.
