SPECIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 691,799, dated January 28, 1902.

To all whom it may concern:

Beit known thatLOHARLEs A. OBENCHAIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, in the District of Oolumbia,have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Fixtures; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention,such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in curtain-fixtures, and has for its object to provide a housing or hood for the curtain in a novel manner, as hereinafter described and claimed, so as to form a protection for the curtain and at the same time to form an ornament for the room.

With this object in view the invention concombination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described ,and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

I attain these objects by the mechanism in which Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a window with my improvement attached. Fig. 2 shows a cross-section on the line 00 a: of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 shows the interior of the housing. Figs. 4 and 5 show modified forms of brackets.

In the drawings, A represents a hood or housing adapted to fit loosely over the roll of a window-curtain or other article similarly used, inclosing it from end to end, except along the rear side. The hood describes a little more than a half-circle in cross-section, as shown in Fig. 2, the half-cylinder thus formed being closed at the ends. The ends,- however, may be formed in any suitable design. It may be made of tin, brass, wood, or other suitable material and may be as cheap or as expensive as the taste may dictate. Within the hood near each end is a longitudinal track a, formed of sheet metal, preferably, and having flanges or, adapted to receive the lug or bearing 17 of the bracket These tracks are secured in any usual providing the lug b, so as Serial No. 57,132. manner. They are made several inches in length, so as to receive brackets, which may be fixed at varying distances apart. In this manner the hood may be adjusted to windows of difierent sizes.

. By reference to Fig. 2 it will be seen that the curtain C will roll unobstructed back of the hood, whereit may be concealed and protected from dust.

The hood is placed in position by sliding the lug b of one bracket into the outer end of one track, while the lug of the other bracket is passed into the inner end of the corresponding track.

I thus provide a cheap, durable, and easily adjustable housing for curtains and similar articles'which at once serves. as a protection,

conceals from view the less-sightly portions,

and becomes itself an attractive ornament. What I claim as new, and desire to secure I by Letters Patent, is

1. In a curtain-fixture, a hood, provided with longitudinal holding-tracks, and brackets having lugs adapted to engage in said 7 5 tracks, substantially as specified. 2. In a curtain-fixture, a hood composed of a single member and provided interiorly, with tracks, brackets adaptedto engage in said tracks and whereby said hood may be adjusted to different-sized windows, substantially as specified.

3. In a new article of manufacture, a hood composed of one member, and provided interiorly with holding-tracks, and brackets having lugs adapted to engage in said tracks, substantially as specified. v
