This invention has relation to that dass of tioket-holders in which the devioe is seoured to the back of one seat so Las to hold the tioket of the passenger in the next suooeeding seat in such a way that the passenger is relieved of the neoessity of produoing his tioket at interva1s for the inspeotion of the oonductor.

Numerous devioes, such as a notohed disk of spring metal secured to the side Wall of the car, &o. have been proposed for temporarily holding the tieket, but so far as I am aware there have been objeotions of one sort or another to their employment. In order to hold the tieket properly in plaoe, the holder should be arranged so as to permit 0f the easy introduotion or withdrawal of the tieket and at the sa1ne time t0 so expose it t0 view as to obviate its remova1 for the eonduotors inspeotion. The holder should likewise be formed of a minimum of parts and should be so simple in construotion as to be of small cost in oonstruotion.

This invention therefore oonsists of a tioketholder consisting of a plate 0f transparent materia1, such as glass, seoured by a pin or screw to the solid portion 0f the back of the chair, whereby the yielding eushion of the said back permits the introduotion of a tioket between the p1ate and it, so that when the tiokets are inserted they are fully exposed to view, the printing or other symbols thereon being easily seen through the transparent plate.

Reference is t-o be had to the annexed drawings and to the letters 1narked thereon, forming a part of this specifioation, the same letters designating the same parts or features, as the case may be, wherever they ooeur.

Of the drawings, Figure 1 shows a portion of the back of a ohair in a railway-oar Whieh is provided With tWo 0f the improVed tioketholders. Fig. 2 is a seotion through the same -its oenter to reoeive a fastening sorew or pin b, Whioh latter is provided with a head c and with a threaded portion d. Preferably a washer e is inserted between the head c and the disk a. The back of the chair is coustruoted With a wooden portion f, at eaoh side of whioh there is a cushion g, oovered with a 1ayer of plush seoured along the edge of the back by a binding held in plaee by largeheaded taeks j. When the disk a is seoured to the seat, the threaded portion of the sorew is driven into the wooden portion far enough to cause the disk to bear with a moderate degree of pressure against the oushion and its covering of plush, so that the tioket is easily inserted in p1ace, the plush 01 the cushion yielding to permit this. In oase the cushion beoomes slightly worn, or its resilienoy is decreased under the oontinual pressure of the disk, the sorew may be driven in a litt1e farther, so as t0 bring the disk more tightly against it.

A tieket-holder oonstruoted in acoordance with the above desoription possesses many features of advantage. It is extremely simp1e in oonstruotion, requires but a few parts,

holds the tickets in p1aoe With a yieldingpressure wherebythey are easily put in plaee and removed, and by reason of its transparenoy permits the oonductor to see the printing on the face of the tioket without removing it from the holder.

If desired, the disk may be seoured in plaoe by a holt threaded into a nut and looked thereto, so. as to prevent any one fron1 removing it, or it may be provided with two or more fastening devioes, they being mere matters of detai1 and being all inoluded in the invention.

Having thus explained the natura of the invention and described a way of oonstruoting a:nd usingthe same, though without attempting to set f0rth all 0'f the forns in which it may be made or all of the modes of its use, I dec1are that what is claimed is l. A ticketholder consisting of a nonflexible platte of transparent material su eh as glass provided With an aperture, in combination With 1nea'ns passing throngh t=he aperture f01 seeuring it 110 the back of a seat.
