NlTED S 3;; AYES FENGER-RING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 368,743, dated August 23, 1887.
I Application filed June 18, 1887. Serial No. 241,693. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, ROBERT WEIDMANN, of Greenville, in the county of Hudson, State of NewJersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Finger-Rings, of which the following is a specification. Y
The invention relates to improved fingerrings of that class in which the stone is detachably supported in the box of the ringand can be readily exchanged, so as to dispense with the necessity of keeping a large stock of rings on hand; and the invention consists of a finger-ring the box of which is provided in the bottom with an opening and a beveled seat, and with transverse strips attached to the inside of the bottom of the box, while the stone is provided with a fixed transverse band having a center screw which is engaged by a beveled screw-nut that is fitted into the seat in the'bottom of the box, flush with the bottom, so as to attach the stone firmly to the box.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a vertical longitudinal section through the box of my improved finger-ring. Fig. 2 is a bottom view of the stone as detached from the box. Fig. 3 is a top View of the box, and Fig. 4 a detail bottom view of the tapering screw-nut for attaching the stone to the box.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre sponding parts.
In the drawings, A represents the box or frame of a finger-ring, saidbox forming the support for the stone B, as customary in fingerrings of this class. The box A is provided at the central part of its bottom with an opening, a, and a raised boss, a, that forms at the outside of the box a tapering seat, a Transverse strips 1) I) extend across the bottom of the box A, at the inside of the same, said strips being about as thick as the boss (4, for the purpo e of supporting the stone B at both sides of the box. When the box is made of stock of considerable thickness, the seat may be arranged in the bottom of the box, and thereby the raised boss and the trans verse bearing-strips dispensed with. For thin stock, however, it is necessary to use the same.
The stone B is provided at the under side with a transverse dovetailed recess, into A screw-nut, D, having a bcveled edge and suitable recesses for a screwdriver, is then screwed home on the post until fully seated in the beveled seat at the under side of the box bottom, flush with said bottom, it serving to hold the stone firmly in position in the box. By releasing the screwnut D, the stone B can be detached and any other stone can be inserted into the box, according to the fancy of the purchaser. The jeweler is thus enabled to supply the wants of his customers without keeping a very large stock of rings by fitting whatever stone is selected into the box of a ring of proper size.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The combination, in a finger-ring, of a box having a bottom opening and exterior seat, with a stone fitting in said box, a transverse band secured to said stone and provided with a screw-post, and a beveled screw-nut engaging said screw-post and fitted into the seat of the box-bottom flush with the latter, substantially as shown and described.
2. The combination, in a finger-ring, of a box having an opening with a raised boss and beveled seat, transverse bearing-strips extend ing across the bottom of the box at the inside of the same, a stone fitted in the box, a transverse band attached to the under side of the stone and provided with a screw-post, and a beveled screw-nut fitting into the seat of the box-bottom, so as to be flush with the same, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as.
my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ROBERT WEIDMANN.
