J. BEAL.
DETAGHABLB HARNESS RosETTE.
Patented Deu. 27, 1887.
UNITED STATES JOHN BEAL, OF FENTON, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR OF ONE HALF TO CHARLESv PATENT OFFICE.
WV. BUSH, OF SAME PLACE.
DETACHABLE HARNESS-ROSETTE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 375,691, dated December 27, 1887.
Application filed March 28, 1887. Serial No. 232.660. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN BEAT., a citizen of the United States, residing at Fenton, in the county of Genesee and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Detachable Harness-Bosettes; and I dodeclare the following to be a full, clear, and eX- act description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and iigures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention in rosettes relates more especially to that class used on bridles.
'Ihe object of' said invention is to construct a rosette which will becheap and durable, one that may berattached to the parts of a bridle without sewing any of the parts of the bridle to it, and being so constructed that the rosette may be readily detached to allow the repairing of any of the parts connected thereto.
In my device the crown and frontstraps and the gag-runner are attached to the back face of the rosette, and by removing a single screw passing through the crown-strap into the rosette all of said parts become detachable, as willbe fully set forth; and my invention consists in the organization of parts, as hereinafter set forth, and pointed out particularly in the claims.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure l is a perspective of my device attached to the bridle of a horse. Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective of the back face of the rosette, showing one end of the front strap attached, also the gag-runner, with crown-strap removed. Fig. 3 is an enlarged perspective of the crown-strap, having like parts broken away. Fig. 4 is a section taken on dotted linexzr of Fig. 2, showing the crownstrap attached. Fig. 5 :is a section taken on dottedv line Z Z of Fig. 6, looking toward the left. Fig. Gis a perspective of the backrface ofthe rosette, showing the gag-runner attached for right-hand side of bridle and dotted position to show attachment of gag-runner for lefthand side.
As shown in the drawings, R represents the rosette, which consists of the base circular disk of plate B, the front of which is covered by the polished plate B. Its annular flange a overlaps the periphery of the plate B. The covering-plate B may be dispensed with. In such a ease the outer plate, B, is to be ornamented or plated, as desired. I attach to the back face of the plate B a series of studs, d, standing atright angles to the plane of said plate. The center of the plate B has a projeeting hub or head, H, 0f a triangular form, with an internally screw-threaded hole, e. (See Figs. 2 and 6.)
The front strap, F, is provided at each end with a hole, a', (see Fig. 2,) and is attached to the rosette by passing one of thelugs dthrough said hole, as shown in Fig. 2. The ends ofthe strap meet one of the triangular faces of the head H, as shown in FiO. 2, keeping it in position. Thejoining ends of the gag-runner n are provided wit-h a hole, a', to receive a lug, d, of the rosette, by which it is attached to the rosette.
The front strap, F, is attached to the rosette at nearly right angles to the gag-runner n, as shown in Fig. 2.
The crown-strip Gis provided at each end with a cheekbillet, Z, and a throat-latch billet, t, which are formed from the crown-strip by making the slit or cut O. (See Fig. 3.) The crown-strip is attached to the rosette (of which I employ two in a bridle) by crossing the back face at right angles to the front strap, F, and passing through the crown-strap a screw, S, which is forced into the screwthreaded hole e in the head of the rosette. (See Figs. 3 and Lit.)
It will be observed that the crown-strip being attached after placing on the studs the front strap and gag-runner said front strap and gag-runmer are prevented from coming off of the studs d by the pressure of the crown-strap O, and that the lug d presses against the crownstrap, thereby preventing the tilting of the rosette when the parts are attached.
To detach the parts, the screw S passing through the crown-strip is Withdrawn, when the front strap, F, and the gag-runner may be removed from the studs torepair said straps or to insert new ones. The parts attached to a rosette are held in position by asingle screw,
and by its removal the rosette, or any or all of said plate, the erownstrap and screw S bindro its attached parts, may be readily removed. ing said parts together, as and for the purposes Having thus fully set forth my invention, specified.
what I claim as new, and desire to secure by In testimony whereof I afx my signaturein 5 Letters Patent, ispresence of two witnesses.
In a rosette, the combination of the plate B,
having on its back face the screw-threaded hub Witnesses: and series of studs, the front strap and gagrein JOHN THIEL, runner each removably attached to a stud of C. WV. BUSH.
JOHN BEAL.
