Tassel0lips for Cu r'tai ns.
WITNESSES AM. PHOT0-LITHDGRAPH/C ca. MK L (imam/5L: Pkacsss) NITED STATES FREDERICK MULLER, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN TASSEL-CLIPS FOR CURTAINS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 140,295, dated June 24, 1873; application filed I October 15, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK MiiLLER, of Boston, in the county of Sufi'olk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tassel-Clips for Curtains, &c., and that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying draw- 1ngs.
This invention relates to tassel-clips for window-shades, curtains, &c., that are constructed to automatically adjust themselves about or upon and to seize the curtain-stick, either entirely or substantially surrounding the'stick. The invention particularly relates to the tassel-clip for which Letters Patent of the United States were issued to me, dated January 19, 1869, No. 85,953, and in this specification will be particularly described in connection therewith, although, as will be obvious hereinafter, it is applicable to all clips of the character or construction above stated.
Under this invention, first, there is combined with the tassel-clip aforesaid a screw and a spring for fastening or clamping the clip to the stick in the direction of its widththat is, between its two parallel edges 5 secondly, within the clip there is arranged an adjusting-screw and a cam, to positively force the clip-jaws against the side of the curtainstick', positively clamping the stick in the direction of its thickness.
In the accompanying plate of drawings my improvements in tassel-clips for curtains, window-shades, &c., are illustrated- Figure 1 being a front view of the same applied-to a curtain and its stick, Fig. 2 an edge view, and Fig. 3 a section in plane of line 00 m, Fig. 1.
The tassel-clip represented in the drawings is constructed according to both features of this invention, also in full accordance with my aforesaid Letters Patent-that is, with side pieces A united by lips to to a spring, B, and provided with the hooks e on their upper ends. By the action of the spring B the side pieces A automatically adjust themselves upon and to the side of the curtain-stick N, and embracing or seizing the same project by their hooks 0 over and about the thin edge b of the stick. 7, a rod inclosed by the bow-portion 3 to spring B g, a screw-rod, which screws into and across said rod f and h, a hole in spring B for said screw to pass through. If desired, the rod f may be dispensed with, and a screw-thread cut in the hole in the spring where the screw-rod passes through. The head to the screw-rod g is between the lower portions of the side pieces A, and the screw-rod when turned moves in a direction parallel to the length of the side pieces A. The screw-head l is made with an eye, m, for receiving the tassel-cord D, and said head, by its side or edge it, acts as a cam to spread or open the ends to the side pieces A from each other, which, as a consequence, closes them at their other or upper ends or hooks e.
The clip above described is applied to the curtain-stick, as in my said patent-that is, by placing the stick between its side pieces A, the hook ends of which pass by the thin edge to the stick, and having thus placed it on the curtain stick, turn the screw 9 in the proper direction to bring it to bear upon and to act against the thick edge P of curtain- .stick, clamping thereby the clip to and across the width of the stick, or in other words confining the stick at its upper and lower edges by and between the hooks e and end of screwrod 9, as shown in Fig. 3. v a By leaving the screw-rod in a position with its head in a plane transversely to the side pieces, said head acts as a cam on the side pieces A to force and hold them there apart, bringing them as a consequence firmly to bear upon and to gripe the side of the stick by their portions resting thereon.
The screw-rod may enter or notthe curtainstick, its clampingaotion being substantially as strong in either case. i
A clip constructed according to this invention obviously can be secured with the utmost rigidity to a curtain-stick, and in a most ready manner removed at pleasure.
The hook ends e to the side pieces A may be dispensed with, and the side pieces adapted by prongs to enter the stick or otherwise to interlock therewith.
Having thus described my invention, I shall state my claims, as follows:
1. A tassel-clip composed of side pieces A, adapted to open from and to close upon each other, and connected by a spring or hinge, in combination with a screw, g, arranged between the pieces A and applied so as to act upon the curtain-stick in the direction of its width, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. A tassel-clip composed of side pieces A, adapted to open from and to close upon each other by means of a spring or hinge, in combination with a flat or cam headed screw, g, constructed and arranged between the plates A, to force them apart at one end, substantially as and for the purpose described.
3. A tassel-clip composed of side pieces A and a screw, 9 arranged and adapted together for the screw to secure the clip to the curtainstick, by a clamping action in both directions Witnesses:
