SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 576,377', dated February 2, 1897'. Application filed August 31, 1896. Serial No. 604,440. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, VILLIAM HARVEY RAYMOND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Marshall, in the county of Calhoun and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Neck-Yoke Retainers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the sam-e, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form apart of this specication.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in neck-yoke supports or retainers; and it has for its object the provision of a simple and inexpensive and at the same time efcient and durable device ofthe character mentioned, which, while being adapted to ready engagement with the ring .at the end of the neck-yoke and to effectually hold the same against accidental displacement, at the same time will permit the ready disengagement of the ring when desired.

To this end and to such others as the invention may pertain, the sameconsists in the novel construction of the device, as hereinafter described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and then specifically claimed.

The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon,.form a part of this specication, and in which drawings- Figure l is a perspective View of the neckyoke retainer embodying the present invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section of the same. Fig. 3 isa horizontal section upon the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.

Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A represents a block of wood, metal, or other material adapted to the purpose. This block is of a width slightly greater than the width of the llame-strap loops B B and in vertical cross-section the i block is in the form of a truncated pyramid,

as is clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings. Passing through the center of the block A is an opening C, communication with which opening throughout its entire length is had from the top of the block through a slot C', which extends diagonally across the top of the block, as shown.

The hame-strap loops I3 .T5 are formed of a wire forming the llame-strap loops has been placed in position, the inner walls of the casting being provided with suitable recesses to engage the said wire, and the parts when thus united are held together by means of bolts or rivets a a passed therethrough.

From the foregoing description the operation of the device will be readily understood.

When it is desired to place the neck-yoke ring within the opening C in the block A, it is simply necessary to turn the block so as to have the slot C register with the ring, when the ring is readily permitted to enter the openin g C through the slot C. When the retainer is secured to the llame-straps of the harness, the block is necessarily thrown into such a position as to hold the slot C out of alinement with the ring within the opening C and thus prevent the possibility of the ring being accidentally thrown out of the said opening through the slot C'.

l-Iaving thus described my invention, what I claim to benew, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The herein-described neckyoke retainer, the same consisting of a block having an opening for the reception of the ring upon the neck-yoke and a slot extending from the upper face of the block downward and communicating with the said opening at an angle to the direction of the length of the opening, the hame-strap loops formed of a single piece of wire bent around the block as described, the outer casting covering the sides and bottom of the block and the means, as the rivets a, for holding the parts together, substantially as described.
