UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE WV. YOUNGER, OF LONDON, ENGLAND.
MEANS FOR ATTACHING STUDS, BUTTONS, &c., TO WEARING-APPAREL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 573,317, dated December 15, 1896.. Application filed May 14, 1894. Serial No. 511,159. (No model.) Patented in England January 2, 1894, No. 11 1.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, GEORGE WATERWORTH YOUNGER, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain and Ireland, and a resident of Hackney, London, in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment- Supporters, (for which I have obtained a patent in Great Britain, No. 114:, bearing date January 2, 1894,) of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to garment-supporters adapted to hold a portion of two garments parallel with each other and to support one of the garments by its connection with the other garment.
To the accomplishment of the foregoing and such other objects as may hereinafter appear the invention consists in the construction and in the combination of parts hereinafter particularly described, and then sought to be specifically defined by the claim, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof, and in which-- Figure 1 is a perspective of the invention; Fig. 2, a vertical section through the same; Fig. 3, a side view of the supporter; Fig. 4, a vertical section of a modified form of the same; Fig. 5, a perspective of the rear of the modified form of the invention.
In the drawings the letter a designates a downwardly opening clip formed of metal or other suitable .material and provided with a sorew-threaded recess or socket I), through which passes a screw-threaded stud d; This stud is formed with a suitable head a, by means of which to rotate the same, and carries at its inner end a friction disk or washer f. The stem of this stud passes through the disk or washer, so as to form a small projection 9 upon the inner face of the disk, which projection is adapted to seat itself in a suitable recess 72, formed in the opposite member of the clip a. the surface of the clip may be suitably roughened, if desired, so as to cause the disk to firmly hold the material clasped by it. lVhen the disk is unscrewed from its contact with the material clasped, the disk will seat itself in the socket I), thus leaving the entire inner surface of the clip free, so that it may be readily removed or replaced upon the edge of The inner face of the disk anda garment. If the garment be a very thin one, the projection on the disk will force a portion thereof into the recess h, thereby preventing anyslipping. At the rear of the clip a I provide an auxiliary clip a, which also opens downwardly and is adapted to be slipped over. the edge of a garment, such as a trousers-waistband, to suspend therefrom the garment connected to the clip a.
In the modified form of the invention shown in Figs. 4 and 5 the auxiliary clip is formed of a wire 1 bent to form a loop j, adapted to fit over and embrace the shank of a button attached to the waistband or to the lower portion of a shirt.
In the application of the supporter the clip the invention is specially adapted for attach-' ing overalls to trousers, pants to shirt-s, or undergarments to trousers-waistbands or to each other.
I-Iaving described the invention and set forth its merits, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A garment-supporter consisting of the loop or clip open at its lower end and having one of its members provided with a threaded socket, a screw-threaded stud passing through said socket and provided at its inner end with a disk or washer, a recess adjacent to said threaded socket wherein the disk or washer may be seated, and an auxiliary clip open at its lower end and located at the back of said first mentioned clip and adapted to be attached to a garment whereby the disk or washer may hold a portion of another garment parallel with the garment to which the auxiliary clip is attached, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in pres- $18133: of two witnesses, this 21st day of March,
GEORGE W. YOUNGEIR.
