UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GODFREY ROSSBERG, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
BUTTON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 546,598, dated September 17, 1895.
Application filed January 3 1895.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GODFREY ROSSBERG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Buttons, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a simple and effective button adapted to hold or engage two garments, and the invention resides in the novel features of construction as set forth in the following specification and claim, andillustrated in the annexed drawings, in which Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of my improved button, taken on the line a as, Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a section taken on the line y y of Fig. 1. Referring to the drawings, the referenceletter A indicates a shank or blade formed at one end with a hook O, and having secured to its other end a button B. When secured to a part D of a garment, as a waistband of pantaloons, the button B can be engaged by a suspender, while hook O can be used to hold up an undergarment, such as drawers. The
hook O is shown facing inwardly, while the Serial No- 533/738. (No model.)
button faces outwardly. The buttonB has a tubular shank G, which, when passing through a perforation in part D and secured by a shank K of the rivet H slipped into the shank G, will be held firmly in place. The plate A has an eye in its upper end for the passage of the rivet-shank. In order to hold the plate A against turning, said plate is formed with a tongue I, which engages a slot or depression L in the shank K of the rivet H, and prevents the plate A rotating when connected to button B. 7
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A button provided with a rivet having'a slotted shank, and a hook having a perforated shank provided with a lip made to project into said slot, said rivet shank being passed through the perforation in the hook shank, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. V
GODFREY ROSSBERG. \Vitnesses:
