Description

A. S. KEAGH. LAMP BURNER.
(No Model.)
No. 572,943. Patented Dec. 8, 1896.
\/\/| "T" NESSEE'. INVEINTEIR'.
w EIY A'T'TY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALFRED S. KEACH, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
LAM P-BU RN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 572,943, dated December 89 Application filed July 23, 1895. Serial No. 556,909. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED S. KEACH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Lamp-Burners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists in the improved construction and arrangement of parts for closing the wick-tube and preventing the downward movement of the wick from the wick tube, as hereinafter set forth and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a side elevation of the complete lamp-burner. Fig. 2 represents a top view with the cap removed. Fig. 3 represents a side view with a portion broken away to show the operating mechanism when the wick-tube is closed by the extinguisher. Fig. 4 represents the same side view with the wick raised and the extinguisher in its backward position.
In the drawings, A represents the burner, and b the perforated plate which surrounds the wick-tube, and c the shaft by means of which the wick cl is turned up and down. The extinguisher e is hinged or pivotally held in the slot d, made in the perforated plate I), the said extinguisher being provided with the catch-arm f, which, made in hook form at its engaging end, when the extinguisher is thrown forward by gravity upon the downward withdrawal of the wick, will come into engagement with one of the downwardly-moving hook-formed teeth g, which project from the periphery of the catch-Wheel g, arranged exteriorly of the wick-tube and attached to the shaft 0, thus preventing the continued rotation of the said shaft in that direction and preventing the further downward movement of the wick.
The extinguisher c is formed with a flat surface h, which closes against the side i of the beveled top of the wick-tubej, and is provided with the ears /G is, to which the wire, of which the hook-formed catch-arm f is made, may be secured, or the catch-arm f may be secured to the extinguisher below the perforated plate b, as shown in Fig. 5, if preferred.
I claim as my invention In a lamp-burner, the combination of the beveled wick-tube j, and the perforated plate I) provided with the slot cl, the spur-wheel shaft 0 for raising and lowering the wick, the catch-wheel g provided with the hook-teeth, and arranged on the shaft 0 exteriorly of the wick-tube, and the extinguisher e pivotally held in the slot cl, and provided with the hookformed catch-arm f adapted for hook engagement with the teeth of the catch-wheel g at its downwardly-moving side, substantially as described.
ALFRED S. KEAOl-I.
