BARBERS CASE.

No. 569,274. f
' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.`
VlUSTAVE CARLSON AND PERRY LAVSON, OF VALENTINE, NEBRASKA.
.BARBERS CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 569,274, dated October 13, 1896.
Application led .Tune 4, 1896. Serial No. 594,333. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom t may concern.-
Be it known that we, GUsTAvE CARLSON and PERRY LAWSON, citizens of the United States, residing at Valentine, in the county of Cherry and State of Nebraska, have invented an Improvement in Barbers Cases, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to barbers cases, and the objects-thereof are to provide an improved box or casing for the reception of a barbers outfit, including razors, combs, straps, (te. and with these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which- Figure lis a plan view of the box or casing open; Fig. 2, an end view thereof closed; Fig. 3, a section on the line 3 3 of Fig. l; Fig. 4, a section on the line 4 4L of Fig. l; Fig. 5, a plan View of a detail of the construction; Fig. 6, a side view of a modified form of construction, and Fig. 7 an end view thereof.
In the practice of our invention we provide a box or casing which consists of two similar parts A and B, which are preferably rectangular in form and hinged together at b. One of these parts, the part B, as shown in the drawings, is provided with inclined raised portions b2 in the bottom thereof, which are designed for holding or supporting combs and similar articles, a spring-clamp b3 being secured at the base of each for this purpose, and the other is provided with a plurality of transverse chambers @,which are formed by vertical transverse partition-walls a2, and each of the chambers a is provided with a cover a3, which is hinged at one end thereof, as shown at a4, and on the hin ge-pins D, which are employed for connecting the covers a3 with the partitionwalls a2, are mounted springs d, one end of which is secured to the adjacent partitionwall a2 and the other to the cover, and the object of these springs is to hold the covers closed, and secured to the bottom of each of these covers are transverse strips E, of leather or similar material, between which and the covers the razors are inserted. We also secure to the back of one of the parts A and B a supplemental casing G, in which is mounted a razor-strap g, which is shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2, the end of which projects from the casing G, as shown at g2, and the inner end of said strap is provided with a cord or belt g3, which passes around a pulley g4 at the opposite end of the casing and around a pulley g5, which is secured to the end of the casing opposite the pulley g4 by a spiral spring g, and the end of the cord or belt Gr is carried back and secured to the casing at gl, and by means of this construction the strap g may be withdrawn from the casing whenever desired for use, and when released it will be drawn back into the casing by the spring g, aswill be readily understood.
As a modification of this construction we may employa circular casing H, havingabase h, by which it may be secured to the main box or casin g, composed of the parts A and B, and in one side of which is a transverse slot or opening h2, and in which is mounted a spring drum or roller h4, on which the strap g is wound, and, as will be readily understood, the strap g may be withdrawn by the end piece g2 whenever desired, and when released it will be again rewound on the spring drum or roller h4.
It will thus be seen that we accomplish the object of our invent-ion by means of a device which is simple in construction and operation and perfectly adapted to accomplish the result for which it is intended, and the box or casing may be large enough to contain any desired number of articles, including brushes, combs, razors, dac., and it is evident that changes therein and modifications thereof may be made without departing from the spirit of our invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described our invention, we
claim'as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A box or casing of the class herein described, consisting of two separate similar parts which are hinged together, one of said parts being provided with inclined ledges or shelves, and spring-clamps for securing the combs or other articles thereto, and the other being provided with transverse chambers which are provided with straps for securing razors thereto, substantially as shown and described.
IOO
2. A box or casing of the class herein described, consisting of tWo separate similar parts which are hinged together, one of said parts being provided With inclined ledges or shelves, and spring-clamps for securing the combs or other articles thereto, and the other being provided with transverse chambers which are provided with straps for securing razors, thereto, said box or casing being also provided With a supplemental casing which is secured to the outer side thereof in which is mounted a razor-strap which is retained therein by a. spring and which is adapted to be Withdrawn therefrom when required for use, and to return thereto by said spring, sub- 15V GUSTAVE CARLSON. PERRY LAWSON.
