ATENT FFTCEO JOSEPH W. FRAZIER,
OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CARTRIDGE-BOX.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 368.579, dated August 23, 1887.
Application filed January 22, 1887. Serial No. 225,080. (No model.)
.To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OSEPH W. FRAZIER, of the city and State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in Cartridge- Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
These improvements relate to the class of cartridge-boxes which are provided with vertically-sliding cover-flaps; and the invention consists in the means for connecting the vertically-sliding cover-flap with the box and the means for attaching the box to or suspending it upon the cartridge-belt.
The accompanying drawings, illustrating a cartridge-box containing the improvements, are as follows Figure 1 is a front elevation showing the cover-flap partly pulled down. Fig. 2is atop view of the box, showing the cover-flap in transverse section through the line :0 x on Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a rear elevation representing a portion of the coverflap as broken out for the purpose of exposing to view a portion of the back of the box. Fig. 4 is a vertical sectlon through the line yy on Fig. 2, showing the cover-flap wrapped over the top and front side of the box and fastened in the position it occupies when shielding the box.
The drawings represent an ordinary leather cartridge-box, A, adapted to contain a prescribed number of cartridges. A strip of leather, B, has its return-bends B B fastened, respectively, to the opposite ends of the back a of the box. The bights of the strip B are re enforced by the pieces I) b, which are sewed to the ends of the box and to the curved end portions of the strip B. To further stiffen the bights strips of sheet metal, G C, may be interposed, respectively, between the'pieces b b and the ends of the box and the bights of the strip B, to which the pieces I) b are sewed. The strip B is provided with two transverse slots, 1) I), through which is inserted the belt D, by
means of which the cartridge-box is suspended upon the person of the user.
The back a of the cartridgebox has affixed to it the rearwardly-projecting loops E E, presenting vertical openings for the reception, respectively, of the vertical strips f f, fastened at their opposite ends to the inner side of the vertically-sliding cover-flap F.
Care is taken to make the length of each of the strips f f between its confined ends great enough to allow for the required range of movementof the vertically-sliding cover-flap.
The cover-flap F is provided at the bottom with the tag F, for convenience in pullingthe flap down, and is provided at the top with the button-hole tag F, for convenience in pulling the cover-flap up, and by means of which it is fastened to the button-knob F when arf ranged in the position in which it is shown in Fig. 4.
The combination of a cartridge-box with a vertically sliding cover flap is not herein broadly claimed; but
WVhat is claimed as the invention is" 1. The combination of a cartridge-box with a vertically-sliding coverflap provided upon its inner side with flexible strips secured at their opposite ends, respectively, to the cover-flap, and inserted through loops affixed to the back of the cartridge-box, forthe purpose of connecting the cover-flap with the cartridge-box.
2. The combination, substantially as described, of the cartridgebox A, the strip B, having its ends turned back and secured to the ends of the box, and provided with the transverse slots 1) b, the cartridge-belt D, and the vertically'sliding cover-flap F, interposed between the back of the box and the belt.
