IMPROVEMENT IN POCKET-BOOKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 192,714, dated July 3, 1877; application filed 'May 5, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL M. READ, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement. in Specie-Holders or Pocket-Books, of which the following is a specification:
Figure lis a face view of my improved device, the pocket-book being opened out. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the same folded, taken through the line 00 00, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of the same, taken through the line 3 3 Figs. 1 and 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved receptacle for carryingmoney in the pocket, which shall be provided with distinct receptacles for the different denominations of specie in common use, and also with receptacles for bills and papers. I
The invention consists in the case, provided with the series of tubes, the notched plate, the disks, and the conical spiral springs, with each other; and in the combination of the cover,
made of leather or other suitable material,
and provided with pockets, with the case, provided with the tubes, the notched plate, the disks, and the conical spiral springs, as hereinafter fully described.
In the drawing, A is a rectangular box'or case, in the top plate of which are formed six (more or less) circular holes, each of such a size as to receive some particular coin. In these holes are secured tubes B, extending to the other side of the case. The tubes B are arranged in two rows, and the inner halves of their upper ends rise above the top of the case A, a little more than the thickness of a coin, and to them is attached a plate, 0, the
edges of which over each tube B have semicircular notches formed in them of a little less diameter than the said tube, so as to project over said tube enough to keep the coins in place upon the disks D, that support the said coins. of the conical spiral spring E, the other end of which-rests upon or is secured to the bottom of the case A. This construction of the springs E allows-them to shut up when compressed into a space the thickness of a single strand of the wire that forms them. Upon each of the disks D is marked the denomination of the coin it is to receive.
By this construction the coins are put one at a time upon the disks until as many as desired have been put in, or until the springs have been fully compressed, and are slipped out one at a time, as they are required for use. To the lower part of the case A is attached a cover, F, of leather or other suitable material, which is provided with pockets G, in the manner of an ordinary pocket-book. The cover Fis made of such a length that it may fold together around the case A, and its overlapped ends are secured by a fastener, H, in the same way as an ordinary pocket-book.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As a new article of manufacture, a pocketbook consisting of the pockets G, coin-re" ceivers B, and overlapping cover F, substantially as'shown and described.
