UNEYEED TATES PTENT FFIQE.
CHARLES A. BURROWS, OF LITITZ, PENNSYLVANIA, AS SIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO JOHN K. HARTMAN, OF LANCASTER, PENNSYLVANIA.
FLEXIBLE POCKET SAVINGS-BANK.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Cniinrns A. BUR-ROWS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lititz, in the county of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flexible Pocket Savings-Banks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to savings banks and more particularly to that class which are intended to be carried in the pocket, and are designed to be used until filled and then destroyed in the act of removing the coin from within; one of the main features being that the bank cannot be opened without destroying it, thus detecting any tampering with its contents.
The objects of the invention are to produce a simple, cheap, durable and safe flexible pocket savings bank, that may be folded or rolled into a compact shape and readily carried in the pocket.
Another object of the invention is to produce a pocket savings bank of this class that may be printed upon. and used for advertising purposes.
With these and other objects in view my invention consists in certain construction and combination of parts as will hereinafter be fully described and claimed in the annexed specification, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this application, and in which like reference ligures indicate corresponding parts in all of the views, and in which Figure 1, is a side elevation of my flexible pocket bank, showing the coin inserting neck and a coin in the act of passing tl'ierethrough, shown in dotted lines. Fig. 2, is a top plan view of the same.
Referring to the drawings, 1, indicates a flexible bag, here shown as constructed of canvas, but which may be of any suitable flexible material, and which is closed upon all of its edges with the exception of the cen- Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed. January 23, 1909.
Patented June 22, 1909.

ter of the top edge, which is open for a portion of its length and has secured to the edges of said opening the mouth of the flexible elastic coin neck, or admission part 2, which is formed with tapering sides which converge from the mouth toward the inner outlet, and which is of a size to allow of the free insertion of a coin, and the inner end of which is smaller than said coin, so that when the coin is inserted it has to be forced downward through said neck, which expands to let it pass, thus preventing the coin from being removed from the bag again through the flexible neck; as the neck, after the coin leaves it, will contract, and it will be found impossible to enter the coin into it from within the bag. As a further protection against the removal of the coin from the bag I provide the stop 3, which is placed, a short distance below the bottom of the flexible neck, and formed by securing the sides of the bag together for a portion of the way in the center of the bag, thus providing a further protection against reinserting coins in the flexible neck.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. The combination with a flexible retainer having a neck portion, comprising a flexible elastic inwardly tapering passage, of a coin stop formed within said retainer below the inner end of said neck.
21A pocket savings bank, comprising a flexible receptacle, an inwardly extending elastic coinadmission neck having its mouth secured to the edge of said receptacle and formed with a tapered passage therethrough for the forced admission of a coin.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES A. BURROWS.
