ENVELOPE FOR CURRENCY, CHECKS, 80C.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 299,323, dated May 27, 1884.
Application filed July 28, 1883. (ModcL) 1'0 aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES A. BALL, of
Delphos, in the county of Van Vert and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Envelope for Currency, Checks, 820., of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. The object of my invention is to provide certain new and useful improvements in pre paring packages of currency, notes, checks, drafts, bonds, 820., for shipment by express or otherwise.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a number of checks held together by a metal strip. Fig.
2 is a plan View of the strip. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the completed package.
A thin metal strap, A, is provided with a longitudinal slot, B, and at one end the said strap is provided with atransverse head, 0, having a longitudinal slot, I). A series of bills, bank-notes, checks, drafts, bonds, &c., E, are placed upon each other regularly and evenly, and then the strap A is passed transversely around the pack of bills thus formed, and the end of the strap A is passed through the slot D in the head or cross-piece O, and then that part of the strap that hasbeen passed through the slot in the cross-piece G is bent down flat on the pack. The strap A holds the bills, &c. forming the pack together effectually. The strap A must be so I placed that the cross piece G will be on the top or bottom of the pack, and the slotted part of the strap crosses the side edges. The pack is then inclosed in paper, which is sealed. tied, &c., in the usual manner to form a package, F, at one side edge of which the paper is removed to form an aperture, G, through which the slotted part of the strap A can be seen, and through the slot the edges of the bank notes, &c., can be seen. The notes, bi1ls,&c., in the pack can thus be counted at any time without opening the package; but the side opening in the package is not large enough to permit withdrawing or removing bills through it from the pack.
Havingthus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to seeu re by Letters Patent 1. The metal strap A, provided with a longitudinal slot, B, and at one end with a crosspiece, 0, having a longitudinal slot, D, at right angles to the slot B, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. The combination, with a series of banknotes, bills, 8m, forming a pack, of a slotted strap for holdingthem together, and of a covering or wrapper for the pack, which wrapper has an opening over the slotted part of the strap" to expose part of the edges of all the bills, &c., in the pack, substantially as herein shown and described.
CHARLES A. BALL.
