F. N. YOUNG.
GOIN HOLDER.
Patented Aug. 16, 18,81.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.,
FREDERICK N. YOUNG, OF SARATOGA SPRINGS, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR 'lO CAROLINE A. YOUNG, OF SAME PLAGE.
COIN-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 245,912, dated August 16, 1881.
Application filed May 7, 1881.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FREDERICK N. YOUNG, of Saratoga Springs, in the county ot' Saratoga and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Coin- Holder's 5 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specication, in which- Figure l is a View of the blank.; Fig. 2, a perspective view ofthe holder when open, and
Fig. 3 is a similar view when closed and fastened.
My invention relates to holders for coin; and it consists in a wrapper of paper or metal open at both ends and along the side, (whereby any deception in the count and denomination is prevented,) and provided with a strip of metal for fastening it, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.-
In order to enable others to avail themselves ot' the benets of my invention, I will now proceed to describe its construction and use.
A represents the holder, which is composed of a rectangular strip ot' heavy paper, sheet metal, or any suitable material, one end of which is bent to form a half-cylinder trough, as seen in Fig. 2. The device is then strengthcned by a narrow rectangular frame, B, ofthe same material, which passes longitudinally along the sides and across the center ot' the ends. The other end of the holder-blank is re-enforced with a strip of materiaha, and provided with a small hole, b. The lower halt' of the holder or trough is provided with a projecting tongue or strip of metal, c, the outer (No model.)
end of which, after the holder is filled with coin, is passed through the hole b and bent 4o down to hold the cylinder A together.
This holder is made of the exact size required to hold any. desired quantity of coin of any given denomination, and therefore it requires no counting while filling it, and being open at the ends and along the side, where the ends otA the cylinder-blank do not quite meet, it is impossible to deceive as to the quantity and denomination ot' the'coin inclosed, and is, besides, very cheap, and may be used again 5o and again, the tongue o being straightened or bent, as desired, -to release'or secure the coin contained in it.
The holder may be marked upon the outside to designate the quantity contained.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A coin-holder composed of a rectangular piece of paper or sheet metal of a size to hold 6o a designated amount of coin, and bent into cylindrical form, its edges slightly separated and strengthened and held in shape by a rectangular frame across the center ot' the sides and ends, and provided with afastening-tongue, 65 c, and hole b, whereby the denomination and quantity ot' coin inclosed may be readily seen, substantially as herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as myown I affix my signature in presence of two 7o witnesses.
FREDERICK NICHOLAS YOUNG.
