' G. A. DOYLE; GOUNTER ATTACHMENT FOR SUSPENDING BARRELS.
Patented Sept. 15, 1896.
INVENTOR WITNESSES hook provided with an EErcE.
ATENT GEORGE A. DOYLE, or GANDEEVILLE, WEST VIRGINIA.
COUNTER ATTACHMENT FQR SUSPENDING BARRELS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 567,891, dated September 15, 1896.
Application filed April 24, 1896.
To all whmn it puny concern.-
Be it known that I, GEoEeE A. DOYLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gandeeville, in the county of Roane and State of est Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Counter Attachments for Suspending Barrels; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in counter attachments for supporting barrels; and theinvention consists of the combination of a standard adapted to be journaled beneath a counter and provided with a rigid barrel supporting hook and an adjustable eye adapted to fit about said standard and having a knife-edge and a rack on said standard adapted to be engaged by said knife-edge.
It also consists of certain other novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts, all of which will be hereinafter more particularly described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure lrepresents a side elevation, partly in section, of the devices embodying my invention, the barrel supported thereby being shown in the position it occupies when turned beneath the counter. Fig. 2 represents a top plan view of the same, showing the supporting-standard in section. Fig. 3 represents a central horizontal section through my said devices; and Fig. 4. represents a detail perspective view of the lower end of the supporting-standard, showing the shape of the lower hook.
A in the drawings represents the counter; 13, the supporting-standard; C, theupperadjustable barrel-hook; D, the clamping-screw, andE the barrel. The standardB is provided at each end with ajournal I). These journals are supported, respectively, at the top and bottom by a spider a and a plate a, said spider and plate being each provided with an aperture for receiving said journal ends and being secured, respectively, to the under side of the counter and the floor.
The lower barrel-supporting hook Z) (see Fig. 4,) is provided at its end with a segmental Serial No. 588,927. (No model.)
hooking portion 19 the staves and the bottom of the barrel. The hook C is provided with a segmental hooking portion 0, similar to hooking portion 5 and for a like purpose, only that it rests within and against the upper edges of the staves. This hook O is provided with an eye c,which fits about the standard B and is tapered off at the rear to form a knife 0 A rack 19 is formed on the standard at its rear upper side, and the knifeedge c is adapted to engage any of the teeth on said rack, so that the hook O can be adjusted to fit any-sized barrel. The hook 0, when the barrel is in position, is set in the inclined position shown in Fig. 1, in which position the hook cannot become accidentally disengaged from the upper edge of the barrel, as the greater the tendency of the barrel to swing outward at the top the more firmly the said hook becomes seated. The only way the barrel can be disengaged from said hook is to force the barrel in toward the standard. To prevent this movement of the barrel when it is desired to hold it firmly in position, Iprovide the clamping-screw D. This screw passes through a screw-threaded aperture in the middle of the standard and is provided at its innerend with a swivel segmental head d, which is adapted to engage the barrel and force it outward when the screw is tightened, and thus hold the hooks firmly seated. The outer end of said screw is provided with a head cl, by which it may be easily turned to either tighten or loosen the screw.
Any kind of barrel may be conveniently and readily supported by my device, .as it can easily be adjusted to fit the different sizes. The barrel can be swung beneath the counter, as shown in Fig. 3, with the slightest amount of energy and also out again into the position shown in Fig. 2, in which position its contents, may be readily reached with equal ease.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a barrel-support, the combination of a standard adapted to be journaled beneath a counter and provided with a rigid barre1- supporting hook, an adjustable hook provided which is adapted to fit snugly within and against the lower ends of Having now described my invention, what IOO with an eye adapted to fit about said standard and having a knife-edge, a rack on said standard adapted to be engaged by said knifeedge, and a thrusting device mounted on the standard for forcing the barrel away from the same and against the hooks, substantially as described.
2. In a barrel-support, the combination of a rack on said standard adapted to be engaged by said eye and a screw passing through the middle of said standard and having a head adapted to engage the barrel and force it outward and thus keep the hooks firmly engaged, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE A. DOYLE. Vitnesses:
R. O. DEAN, M. F. LEWELLEN.
