CHARLIE G. OLSON, OF ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS.
MIRROR-SUPPORT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 783,383, dated February 21, 1905.
Application filed August 1, 1904. Serial No. 218,970.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that LOHARLIE G. OLsoN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Rockford, in the county of Winnebago and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mirror-Supports, of which the following is a specification.
` This invention relates to a universally-adjustable support especially designed for holding a toilet-mirror.
The object of this invention is to provide a simply-constructed mirror-support so contrived that the mirror can be easily and speedily raised or lowered to a convenient level, can be swung from side to side to any desired position, and can be tilted to any required angle; and it consists of certain new and useful features of construction and combinations of parts, all as hereinafter fully described, and speciically pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a top plan view of a mirror-support embodying my invention, the upper portion of the mirror being broken away. Fig. 2 is a section at the dotted line 2 2 in Fig. 1 of parts there shown. Fig. 3 is a section at the dotted line 3 3 in Fig. 1 of parts there shown. Fig. 4 is adetailed side elevation showing the clamping device of the mirrorsupport. Fig. 5 is a like view of the same with some parts thereof in different positions from those shown in Fig. 4; Fig. 6 is a section at the dotted line 6 6 in Fig. 5 of parts there shown. Fig. 7 is a section at the dotted line 7 7 in Fig. 2 of the complete mirror-support minus its mirror. Fig. 8 is a section at therdotted line 8 8 in Fig. l of parts there shown.
Like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
A is a stationary base having two lvertical sockets A therein.
B B are a pair of arms having their rear ends B bent downward at right angles to their arms and inserted into and pivoted in the sockets A in the base A and having their outer ends terminating in substantially globular enlargements-B2, having vertical circular openings B3 extending therethrough. C C
are a second pair of arms having their rear ends O bent downward at right angles to their arms and inserted and pivoted into the circular openings B3 in the arms B and having their outer ends (l2 bent upward at right angles to their arms for a purpose to be eX- plained hereinafter. The arms O are provided with counterpart sockets O3, inclosing the upper portions of the enlargements B2 on the arms B, such sockets O3 being' provided with shoulders Ci for limiting the lateral movements of such arms C.
D is a bracket carrying the stationary member D of a clamping device and having two vertical' sockets D2 and a countersink D3 therein and pivot-jointed through such sockets D2 to the upturned outer ends C2 of the arms C.
Esis the oscillatory member of the clamping device of the supportand is provided with a transverse mirror-supporting-bar-engaging lug E and an inwardly-projecting clampingboss E2 and pivoted to a transverse bearing Fj, composed'of an ordinary headed bolt and its nut on the stationary member D' of the clamping device.
F is a mirror-supporting bar inserted between the stationary and oscillatory members 1)/ E of the clamping device and is adapted to be adjustably clamped thereby at any desired point betweenA its ends and at any desired angle or inclination.
G is a mirror secured to the mirrorsupporting bar F by means of screws F or in any other suitable manner. The dotted lines in Fig. 1 of the drawings indicate the general character, but not the full extent of the movements of which the mirror G is capable. The bracket D can be carried back to the base A. 1f the mirror G be tilted to a horizontal position, Figs. 5 and 6, the clamping-boss E2 will have been swung from the position shown in Fig. 7 to that shown in Fig. 6, wherein it is registering with and projecting into the countersink D3 in the part D, thereby unclamping the mirror-supporting bar F and leaving it free to be slid endwise its full'length both up and down. After it has been slid to the desired point the mirror is again tilted, Fig. 4, to the desired angle of inclination, which last-mentioned movement will cause the IOO clamping-boss E2 to travel out of its countersink D3 onto the inner face of the part D', thereby securely and rigidly clamping the bar F to the bracket D. 4
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a mirror-support, in combination, a stationary base having two vertical sockets therein, a pair of arms, having their rear ends bent downward at right angles thereto and pivoted in the sockets in the base, and having their outer ends terminating in enlargements having vertical circular openings therein, a second pair of' arms, having their rear ends bent downward at right angles thereto, and pivoted in the openings in the first pair of arms, and having their outer ends bent upward at right angles thereto, a bracket, carrying a clamping device and having two veitical sockets therein whereby such bracket is pivot-jointedto the upturned ends of' the second pair of arms, and a mirror-supporting bar inserted through the clamping device and adapted to be adjustably clamped thereby at any desired angle of inclination, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. In a mirror-support, in combination, a stationary base having two vertical sockets therein, a pair of' arms, having their rear ends bent downward at right angles thereto and pivoted in the sockets in the base and having their outer ends terminating in substantially globular enlargements having'vertical central openings extending therethrough, a second pair of arms, having their rear ends bent downward at right angles thereto, and pivoted in the openings in the first pair of arms, and having their outer ends bent upward at right angles thereto, and provided with counterpart sockets inclosing the upper portions of' the enlargements on the outer ends of the first pair of arms, such sockets being provided with shoulders for limiting the lateral movements of the outer pair of arms, a bracket carrying Va clamping device and having two vertical sockets therein wherethrough such bracket is pivot-jointed to the upturned outer ends of the second pair of' arms, and a mirror-supporting bar inserted between the stationary and oscillatory members of the clamping device andl adapted to, be adjustably clamped thereby at any desired point between its ends and at any desired angle or inclination, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. In a mirror-support, in combination, a stationary base, having two vertical sockets therein, a pair of arms, having their rear ends bent downward at right angles thereto and inserted into and pivoted in the sockets in the base, and having their outer ends terminating in substantially globular enlargements having vertical circular openings extending ,therethrough, a second pair of arms, having their rear ends bent downward at right angles there- -to and inserted and pivoted into the enlargements on thel first pair of arms, and having their outer ends bent upward at right angles thereto, a bracket, carrying the stationary member of a clamping device, and -having two vertical sockets therein and pivot-jointed, through such sockets, to the upturnedl outer ends of the second pair of arms, an oscillatory member of a clamping device, provided with a transverse mirror supporting bar engaging lug and an inwardly-projecting locking-boss and pivoted to a transverse bearing on the stationary member of the clamping device, and a mirror-supporting bar inserted between and adapted to be ad justably supported by the members of' the clamping device, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereofI have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses. i
