Description

UNITED STATES PATENT" OFFICE.
WILLIAM ANSON WALLWORK, OF LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY.
LIQUID-WEIGHING DEVICE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM ANsoN WALLwoRK, a citizen -of the United States, residing at Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Liquid-Veighing Devices; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to liquid weighing devices, particularly to that type of structures which are adapted for use in connection with faucets.
The object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will be cheap to produce, efficient in operation and readily attached to any faucet.
A further object of the invention is the provision of means whereby I am enabled to weigh a receptacle independently of the contents which is to be put in said receptacle.
lith these objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be described hereinafter and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation; Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view; and Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the device detached from the faucet.
In the drawings I have shown a faucet attached to a support, 2, which may be the sides of a beer keg, molasses barrel or the like. The faucet is provided with the usual valve controlling handle, 3, and the nozzle, 4.
The scale proper comprises a pair of parallel side members, 5 and 6, the former being notched upon its upper surface, as at 7, and the latter having a smooth uninterrupted top edge, S. The two parallel side members, 5 and 6, are connected together by end members, 9 and 10, the former of which is pro'- vided with a receptacle hook, 11. A cylindrical clamp 12, adjusted as to size by a set screw, 13, is provided with a pair of diametrically opposite stub shafts, 14, which receive bearing in apertures 15 in the side members, 5 and 6. The side and end members are formed out of one piece of material bent into shape and secured by a screw, 15, which passes through a side member 6, and into the end member 10. Suitable weights 16 and 17 are carried by the sides 5 and 6,

respectively, the former having means to engagethe notches, and the latter being provided with a frictional engaging device 18 to prevent slipping on the smooth edge, 8.
The device is attached to the faucet by passing the clamping band 12 arotuid the nozzle end of the faucet and tightening up the set serew 13. The band is sufficiently flexible to accommodate it to almost any size of nozzle, but if found too small, an annular washer may be passed around the nozzle between it and the band.
In the operation of the device, the receptacle is hung upon the hook 1 1 and the weight 17 adjusted over the smooth edge, 8, until the scale balances, its frictional device 18 holding it from false slipping. The faucet is then turned to allow the liquid to flow into the receptacle and the weight 16is adjusted to determine the amount wanted. Secured between the ears of the faucet clamp is a vertical rod, 19, having a pair or arms, 20, horizontally disposed to support the scale beams when not in use. When the scale beams are balanced, the arms, 20 are slightly below the beams.
Frequently in measuring beer and like beverages, the foam generated very often confuses both the seller and the consumer, and mostly the latter. By my invention I am enabled to avoid any such difficulty and provide a device which will be an advantage to both the consumer and the dealer.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the prin.
ciple or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention, as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by .Letters Patent, is:
1. In a device of the class described, a faucet, a clamp surrounding the nozzle thereof and having stub shafts projecting therefrom, a pair of scale beams journaled on said stub shafts to straddle the nozzle and having their ends connected, a receptacle hook at the forward end of said beams, weights carried by the rear end of said beams, one adapted to balance the beam and the receptacle, and the other adapted to Weigh the contents put into the receptacle, and means carried by the clamp for supporting the beams when unbalanced by the weights,
2. A scale beam comprising a pair of parallel beams with Weights adjustably mounted thereon, means to attach the beams to a faucet, and, means pivoted on said attaching means for supporting the beams When unbalanced by the weight.
A beam scale comprising a pair ol parallel beams With weights adjustably mounted j thereon, a clamp to attach the beams to a faucet, and means plvoted on saidclax'i'lp lor supporting the beams when unbalanced by 1:3 the Weights.
In testimonyT Wherool l have hereunto sct my hand 1n presence of two subserlbing W1tnesses.
