J. L. RINKER.
ADJUSTABLE GAN SWING.
No. 261,956. Patented Aug. 1, 1882.
7772 12 601160. B W fiz/fllizli7v Mew f gwM vi ta UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
JOSEPH L. RINKER, OF HIGH POINT, MISSOURI.
ADdUSTABLE CAN-SWING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 261,956, dated. August 1, 1882.
Application filed June 16, 1882. (N model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J. L. RINKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at High Point, in the county of Moniteau and ,State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Gan-Swings; and
- I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, refcrence being had to the annexed drawing, making a part of this specification, and 'to the letters and ti gures of reference marked thereon.
The present invention has relation to certain new and useful improvements in devices for holding cans or other vessels, such as oil-cans, carhoy s, kegs, or barrels; and the object thereof is to provide a stationary frame and a swing connected thereto, with suitable devices for holding the vessel therein, whereby the vessel can be emptied of its contents without handling, substantially as shown in the drawing, and hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing, whiclijrepreseats a perspective view of my invention, A designates a suitable frame, of wood or tnrlal, adapted to rest or stand upon a floor orother support. To the sides of the frame A is suspended the metal swing 13, provided with a suitable handle, a, for tipping it. The .horizontal or lower portion of the swing B has a screw-threaded hole for a screw-tln'ezuled adjusting-rod, I), having llpull ihs upper/end a disk, 0, for supporting the can and adjusting it to any height required. Thumb-screws d pass horizontally through screw-holes in the upright sides of the swing A, and have secured to their inner ends semicircular or other form of clamps O, which may, if desired, be pivoted to the ends of the thumb-screws.
By the employment of the thumb-screws and clamps, also the adjustable screw-rod and disk, the device can be adjusted to hold any size can or vessel, either in diameter or height.
The clam ps 0 are so constructed at their ends that they are equally as well adapted to a square as a round vessel, and are provided with spurs 6 when used to hold wooden vessels. I do not desire, however, to confine myself to any particular form of clamps, and, if desired, the rod b may have a crank or other device upon its lower end to operate it.
The frame A, also the swing B, may be modified or changed from the form and construction shown without departing from the principle of my invention.
It will be seen that a very simple, practical, and durable device is provided for holding cans and other vessels of any size and shape, and itdoes not require the handling'of the can when emptying it of its contents, as in the ordinary way.
Having now fully described my invention, what 1 claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 7' The combination, with the stationary frame A, of the swing B, provided with handle a, thumb-screws d, and clamps U, and the screw rod 1), having disks 0, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
J. L. RINKER.
Witnesses:
W. G. J OSLYN, W. J. STEPHENS.
