vBroom Attachments, of which the following UNITED STATES WILLIAM HENRY BURNETT,
WHISK-BROOM OF RED HOOK, NEV YORK.
ATTACH M ENT.
. SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 567,217, dated September 8, 1896.
Application filed May 12, 189,6. Serial No. 591,276. (No model.)
.To all whom it 7er/Ly concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM HENRY BUR- NETT, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Red Hook, in the county Yof Dutchess and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Whiskis a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, formin g a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to whisk-brooms and similar devices; and the object thereof is to provide means whereby such articles may be suspended from a suitable support; and with this and other objects in view the invention consists in the device hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specication, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which- Figure l is a side view of a whisk-broom Fig.. 2 a perspective view of the attachment.
In the drawings forming part of this specication, A represents a whisk-broom of any preferred formV or construction, and which is provided with a handle d, and the body portion of the broom is held together in the usual manner by the usual wires or cords B, which and in the practice of my invention I provide an attachment whereby the broom may be suspended from any suitable support and in any desired position, said attachment being shown at D in Fig. l and in perspective in Fig. 2.
The attachment is preferably composed of spring-wire, the central portion of which is bent to form a yoke or loop d, which is provided with outwardly and downwardly directed arms or extensions cl2, at each end of which is formed a downwardly-directed loop d5, above which the ends of the wire are bent upwardly and backwardly to form loops d4, which are at right angles to the loops d3, and the ends of the wire are then projected to form prongs d5.
The attachment D is connected with the broom by passing the prongs d5 therethrough adjacent to the wire or cord B and then slipping the same in the direction of the handle, so that said wires or cords will pass into the loops d4, and when thus connected with the broom the attachment will serveY as means for suspending the same from a nail, hook, or other support, as will be readily understood, the loop CZ being passed over a hook or support, or one of the loops cl3 may be used for the same purpose.
This device is simple in construction and operation and perfectly adapted vto accom-- plish the result for which it is intended.
Having funy deseribed my invention, I
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. An attachment for whisk-brooms and similar articles, which is adapted to be connected therewith, and whereby the broom may be suspended, said attachment being composed of spring-wire bent centrally to form a loop which is provided with side arms or projections at the ends of each of which is a double loop, the outer loops being at right angles to the inner one, and each outer loop being provided with a prong or projection, substantially as shown and described.
2. An attachment for whisk-brooms or similar articles substantially as herein shown and described by Ineans of which the same may be suspended, said attachment being composed of spring metal bent centrally to form a loop, said` loop being provided with side arms or extensions at the ends of which are side loops and projecting prongs which are adapted to be connected with the broom, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 8th day of May, 1896.
WILLIAM HENRY ABURNETT.
Witnesses: WILLIAM S. MAssoNNEAU, PETER W. RHYNDERS.
