SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 667,673, dated February 12, 1901.

To all whom. it potty concern:
Be it known that I, MAGGIE BURKART, residing at Orandall, in the county of Lorain and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Sewing-Machine Attachment, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to sewing-machine attachments; and it consists of a substantially rectangular frame with a pincushion pivotally secured to one side thereof, the opposite side being preferably provided with coacting hooks and the remaining sides being each provided with a coil where it is bent into the separable ends.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention most nearly appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective View showing the practical application of my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of my invention detached from the machine-arm. Fig. 3 is a central vertical sectional view.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, A is a circular plate, although, of course, I do not limit myself to a plate circular in shape, as it may be of any desired form, said plate having an upwardly-extending flange B formed about its edge, as illustrated. Attaching-arms O extend at their inner ends through the plate A and have the plate D secured thereto. The pincushion E is secured to plate D and is positioned upon plate A, being engaged by the flange B of said plate. arms O are formed with the convolutions F, and have their ends bent at an angle and extending inwardly,with their meeting extremities formed with the coacting hooks G, by means of which the arms are united.
In operation the pincushion is attached to the arm or other convenient part of the ma The attachingchine, by springing the attaching-arms apart, so that they may embrace the machine-arm, and then engaging the hooked ends of the arms with each other, so that the cushion will be firmly attached to the machine, the same being accomplished through the medium of the spring attaching-arms,as above described. The coils or convolutions at the lower ends of the sides of the arms permit of the separable ends of the frame being bent away from each other sufficiently to pass over the arm or other part of the machine to which it is to be attached, and after it is in position they will assist in adj ustably holding it there. If the frame is longer than the arm, the coils can pass under the edge of the arm; and prevent the removal of the cushion butif the frame is wider than the arm the coils will bear against the sides thereof and the separable ends will engage with the under side and prevent the removal.
The attachment described may be made as ornamental and neat in appearance as may be desired and will prove to be a useful accessory to the sewing-machine.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
