Description

(Mod.el.) I
E. A. BROWN.
PILLOW SHAM' HOLDER.
Patented Sept. 27,1881.
U ITED STATES ELIZA A. BROWN, OF BREEDSVILLE,
Micaiean, ASSIGNOR on ONE-HALF TO SARAH E. WEYBURN, OF SAME PLACE. I
'PlLLOW-SHAM HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 247,606, dated September 2'7, 1881.
' Application filed May 21, 1881. (Model) To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELIZA A. BROWN, 2. citizen of the United States, residing at Breedsville,'in the county of Van Buren and State 5 of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pillow-Sham Holders and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents my improved pillow-sham supporter in place upon and holding a pillow-sham extended. Fig. 2 represents adetached view of one of the curved corners provided with means for securing the supporter to the sham. Fig. 3 is a detached view, in section, of one of the adjusting-slides, whereby the supporter is increased or decreased in size. Similar letters of reference in the several 2 5 figures indicate the same parts.
.The object of the present invention is to provide means wherebya pillow-sham may be kept extended and in position upon a bed at all times, even if the pillow be removed from said bed.
0 The advantages of such a supporter will be readily understood by housekeepers, or by parties who are obliged to make a single room answer the double purpose of a sleeping and sitting room or parlor, inasmuch as a pillowsham provided with my supporter will hold its position and be neat in appearance a greater length of time than apillow-sh am not provided with such a support.
To the accomplishment of the above ends the invention consists in a frame of suitable material, preferably wire, provided with means whereby to increase or diminish said frame in size, and further provided with means whereby to secure said support to a pillow-sham,
4 5 substantially as hereinafter described and claimed. V
Referring to the drawings, Arepresents the support, constructed in four sections, a a, each of said sections being bent at right angles, as shown, and secured each to the other by means of clasps a a The said clasps a a are rigidly attached at a to the outer ends of each of the sections a a, and are provided upon their opposite sides a with suitable recesses, through which the portionsof the sections a a lying between the outer or free ends and the apex of the angle slide, as will be readily understood from the drawings A represents rings formed by turning the wire (of which each section is made) upon itself 6b at each of the four corners or angles of the support. To the rings A are secured, by solder-, ing or in any other suitable manner, pins B, the upper portions, b, of said pins extending from side to side ofthe rings A, upon the upper surfaces thereof. The wire composing the pins is wound once or twice around the sides of the rings, as shown, and thence extends inward toward the center of thering, one end, 1), forming a pin, which passes through'a portion of the pillow-sham G, as shown in Fig. 1, or through a loop, 0, formed upon said sham, as shown in Fig. 2, the outer end of the pin 1) being held by a loop, b formed by the wire I) at the opposite side of the ring.
The operation of my improved supporter will be readily understood from the foregoing description.
Having thusdescribed my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A pillow-sham supporter, A, having the adjustable sections a a, and provided with rings A and means whereby to secure said supporter to a pillow-sham, substantially as described.
2. In a pillow-sham supporter, A, the sections on a, provided at each of their outer or free ends with clasps a a one side of each of .Which clasps is rigidly secured to each of the 0 outer ends of the sections a a, while the opposite sides of the clasps are provided with suitable recesses, through which the main portion of said sections slide, in combination with spring-rings A, whereby the parts a a are 5 sprung or pressed outward to produce a grasp or cross-line of the clasps a a upon the parts the loop b substantially as described, for the 10 a a, whereby their constant tension is secured, purpose specified.
substantially as described. In testimony whereof I affix my signature in 3. In a pillow-sham supporter, the sections presence of two witnesses. 5 aa, each of said sections being bent at right 7 ELIZA ANN BROWN angles and provided with a ring, A, at each of the apexes of said an gles, whereby to secure Witnesses:
a pin, B, having the upper fixed portion, 1), and GEORGE L. ABBOTT, lower pin portion, Z1, normally resting within ROXIE J. ENOS.
