SAM PLE-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 566,484, dated August 25, 1896.
Application filed April 8,1896. Serial No. 586,662. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN J. STRAVLO, of Chanute, Neosho county, State of Kansas, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Sample-Cases, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in sample-cases; and it possesses certain novel features hereinafter specifically pointed out and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure I shows an end view of the case, the same being shown closed. Fig. II is a top plan view of the open case. Fig. III is a vertical section taken along the line III III of Fig. V and showing the case closed. Fig. IV is a vertical section taken along the line IV IV of Fig. V, showing the case half-way open. Fig. V is a top view of the case half-way open.
1 and 1 are the outer covers of the case, hinged together at 2.
3 and 3 are the handles attached to the top to carry the same. On the inside of the covers 1 and 1' are placed partition- pieces 4 and 4, which may be separated at distances convenient to accommodate the articles to be carried. Side pieces 5 and 6 extend the height of the case, leaving a space on either side thereof to accommodate guides to be hereinafter described. These side pieces are provided with guideways 7 to receive rods 8, which serve a further purpose of dividing the compart ments and for securing the samples to be displayed. Hinged at 9 and 10 are two frames whose side pieces 11 and 12 are provided at equal distances with guideways 13 and 14. These are adapted to receive projections or lugs 15 on the ends of the individual pockets or trays 16 and 17. The end pieces of these individual trays are provided with guides 18 and 19, which run into the space between the case-covers 1 1 and the side pieces 11 and 12. As the pins 15 are placed above the center of gravity of the trays 16 and 17, the swinging of the frames 11 12 willnot disturb said trays, for, their centers of gravity being always be low their points of suspension, they will remain in an upright position; Thus the entire set of trays hung in the frames 11 12 may be swung about the hinges 9 and 10, and the contents of said trays will remain undisturbed. When it is desired to remove an individual tray 16 or 17, it is quickly taken from the case by lifting the lugs 15 out through their guideways 13 or 14- The area at either end of each part of the case may be utilized for compartments 2O 21, which are shown covered with glass, the covers thereof being held in place by means of fasteners 22 23. This form of case is especially adapted for showing small goods, such as candies or the like, to the best advantage. A given amount of space is utilized so as to show the greatest possible display area without disturbing the samples. Individual trays may be quickly removed from the case without disturbing either case or contents and passed around among customers for examination.
I claim as my invention- 1. In an improved sample-case, the combination of an outer case, a frame composed of sections hinged to said outer case and provided with trays pivotally swung within said frame, substantially as described.
2. In an improved sample-case, a frame made in two sections, a series of compartments arranged in the sides of said sections, inner frames hinged to said sections and provided with slotted side pieces, and a series of trays adapted to be hung on said slotted side pieces, substantially as described.
3. The combination consisting of a caseframe made in two sections hinged together at one end thereof, a series of compartments arranged in the sides of said sections, inner frames hinged to the outer frames and provided with slotted side pieces,a series of trays adapted to be pivot-ally suspended in said slotted side pieces, and guides secured to the ends of said trays adapted to secure the same in position when the case is closed, substantially as described.
4:. In a sample-case, the combination of an outer case composed of covers hinged together, a frame hinged to said outer case, and trays pivotally mounted in said frame, substantially as described.
