Description

(NoModel.) W. M. SIMONSON.
GOMBINBDMBASURING RULE AND STAMP HOLDER.
' No. 565,932. Patented Aug. 18, 1896.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
VILLIAIWI IWI. SIMONSON, OF HICKSVILLE, NEI/V YORK.
COMBINED MEASURlNG-RULE AND STAMP-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 565,932, dated August 18, 1896. Application filed January 17, 1896. Serial No. 575,838. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern.-
Beit known that I, WILLIAM M. SIMoNsoN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Hicksville, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Measuring- Rules and Stamp-Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to measuring-rules and stamp-holders; and the object thereof is to provide a combined rule and stamp-holder which is simple in construction and operation; and with this and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which-` Figure l is a plan View of my improved rule and stamp-holder; Fig. 2,' a longitudinal section thereof; Fig. 3, an end view, and Fig. 4 a modified form of construction.
In the practicev of my invention I provide a rule A, which may be of any desired size and form and which is preferably composed of wood and provided at one side thereof with a scale B.
with a metal plate D, which is secured to the rule at each side thereof, as shown at d, by means of tacks, screws, or similar devices.
Secured to the upper side of the rule A, and near one end thereof, is a plate E, and formed in said rule beneath said plate is a slot F, which passes therethrough, and mounted in said slot is a wheel or rollei` G, the perimeter of which is milled, as shownl at H, and said wheel or roller G is of such diameter as to rest upon the plate E.
In operation the stampsl which are united in a string, are placed on or passed through the longitudinal slot or chamber C beneath the wheel or roller G, the position thereof being shown at L, and whenever a stamp is be understood, to h old the tickets in contactA with the roller.
It will be apparent that railway and other tickets may be carried in the slot or chamber C as well as stamps, and it will thus be seen that I accomplish the object of my invention by means of a device which is simple in construction and operation and comparatively inexpensive.
Having fully described my invention, I
.claim as new and desire to secure by Letters lPatent` l. A rule or measuring-stick provided with a longitudinal slot or chamber in one side thereof which is adapted to receive stamps, tickets, or similar articles, said slot or chamber being provided with a plate or cover, and said rule or measuring-stick with'a roller or wheel which is mounted thereon, and the perimeter of which is within said slot or-chamber, substantially as shown and described.
2. A rule or measuring-stick provided with a longitudinal slot or chamber in one side thereof, which is adapted to receive stamps, tickets, or similar articles, said slot or chamber being provided with a plate or cover, and said rule or measuring-stick with a roller or wheel which is mounted thereon, and the perimeter of which is within said slot or chamber, and said wheel or roller being provided with a milled perimeter which rests upon the plate or cover of the slot or chamber, substantially as shown and described.
3. A rule or measuringstick provided with a longitudinal slot or chamber in one side thereof which is adapted to receive stamps, tickets or similar articles, said slot or chamber being provided with a plate or cover, and said rule or measuring-stick with a roller or wheel which is mounted therein and the perimeter of which is within said slot or chamber, said wheel or roller being provided with 2 v 565,93e Y imeter of which is Within said slot or chamber, and the plate or cover of the slot or chamber being provided with a spring over which the roller or Wheel is placed, subst-antially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing Witnesses, this 30th day of December, 1895.
WILLIAM M. SIMONSON.
