Description

No. 663,775. Y Patented Dec'. Il', |9001.
J. w. mcco'vf. SADDLE.
(Application led Apr. 7, 1900.)
(Ilo Model.)
UNITED STATES JOI-IN W. MOCOY, OF SINKS GROVE, WEST VIRGINIA.
SADDLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 663,77 5, dated December 11,', 1900.
Application filed April 7| 1900.
T all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, JOHN W. MGOOY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sinks Grove, in the county of Monroe and State of Vest Virginia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Saddles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in saddles; and its primary object is to provide a device of this character which is simple and durable in construction and having` vrollers which are mounted upon suitably-arranged bow-springs.
To this end the invention consists in prov iding a base-plate to which is hinged the saddle, which may be of any suitable construction. .The rollers are journaled within the lower surface of the saddle and are provided with flanges adapted to overlap the edges of bow-springs which are secured to the base-plate.
The invention also consists in the further novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed,
and pointed out in the accompanying drawings, showing the preferred form of my invention, and in Which- Figure l is a side elevation of the device. Fig. 2 is an end View thereof. Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of the device.
Referring to said figures by numerals of reference, l is a base-plate of any suitable construction and which is adapted to be secured to any suitable support. A slot 2 is formed within the base-plate, within the forward end thereof, and is adapted to receive a staple 3 or other similar device, which is secured to the end of a saddle 4, and is retained in said slot preferably by means of a pivot-pin 5, as shown.
The saddle is preferably provided with a Serial No.11,937, (No model.)
recess within its lower surface, at the rear end thereof, and journaled within said recess is a roller 6, having annular flanges 7 in the middle and at the ends thereof. Bow-springs 8 are secured to the outer surface of the baseplate l and are adapted to bear upward upon the roller 6, between the flanges thereof, and support the saddle in raised position..
From the foregoing description it will be seen that the springs supporting the saddle will prevent lateral movement thereof, the anges 7 of the pulleys servingas guides. Also by providing rollers 6 friction upon the springs is minimized.
In the foregoing description I have described the preferred form of my invention; but I do not limit myself thereto, asI am aware that modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit or sacriiicing the advantages thereof, and I therefore reserve the right to make such changes as fairly fall within the scope of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a saddle, the combination with .a baseplate; of a seat hinged thereto and recessed at its free end; rollers journaled within said recesses; annular iianges upon the rollers; and bow-springs secured to the base-plate and bearing upon the rollers between their iianges, said flanges adapted to prevent lateral movement of the saddle.
In testimony whereof I aii'ix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN W. MCCOY.
