W. T. WILLIAMS.
MUGILAGE BOTTLE.
No. 563,110 I Patented June 30, 1896.
l TTORIIEYJX ANDREW IYGIAIIAHJHMONMSIIIIEIDQLRC,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
\VILLIAM THOMAS WILLIAMS, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
MUCILAGE-BOTTLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 563,110, dated June 30, 1896.
Application filed July 31, 1895. Serial No. 557,727. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM THOMAS WIL- LIAMS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mucilage-Bottles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in bottles for containing mucilage and similar substances, and its object is to provide a simple and inexpensive device which may be easily manipulated and which is practically air-tight.
With these and other ends in view the invention contemplates a bottle having a cappiece arranged therein and a top secured on the top of said cap-piece, through which the brush-handle passes.
In the accompanying drawing, forming part of my application, the figure illustrates a vertical central sectional view of a mucilage-bottle constructed in accordance with my invention.
Referring to the drawing, A designates the bottle, which may be of any style, size, or configuration although I have illustrated a simple and desirable form of bottle in the drawing which answers all the requirements of the invention. The upper inner walls of the bottle are preferably recessed to form a shoulder a at a suitable distance below the mouth of the bottle, although it is obvious that this shoulder may be just as readily formed without recessing the walls.
The cap-piece B comprises a cylindrical portion b, which is adapted to fit snugly within the walls of the bottle and rest upon the shoulders a, and it is provided with an annular flange 6, arranged to rest upon the upper edge of the bottle and completely cover the same. The upper portion of the cap-piece is provided with a neck 0, from the lower edge of which a curved portion extends down to the outer edge of the annular flange, as plainly shown in the drawing. This cappiece is preferably made of a single piece of metal and held in place in the bottle by frictional contact; but I may make the'cap-piece of difierent pieces suitably fastened together, and secure it in place by some approved means, as desired.
The neck 0 of the cap-piece and the bottle are closed by means of a top or cover D, provided with a depending flange d to fit snugly on the outside of the neck, and having a central opening cl to receive the brush-handle E. The brush-handle is preferably tightly secured in said opening, so that the top or cover will be removed from the neck when the brush is withdrawn.
The operation and use of my improved device will be readily apparent, and it will be observed that I accomplish the objects of the invention by a simple construction free of all complicated and involved parts.
I am aware that changes in the form and proportion of parts, and details of construction and arrangements of parts of my invention, may be made without departing from the spirit or sacrificing the advantages there of, and I therefore reserve the right to make all such changes as fairly fall within the scope of the invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As a new article of manufacture,a mucilage- I receptacle, consisting of a bottle or receptacle provided with an internal annular shoulder, a short distance below the mouth of the bottle, a cap-piece comprising a cylindrical portion adapted to fit within the mouth of the bottle, the lower rim of which rests upon the shoulder thereof, said cap being provided with an annular flange to rest upon the upper edge of the bottle and completely cover the same; the upper part of said cap being provided with a neck from which a curved portion extends to the outer edge of the annular flange, and a top or cover provided with a flange, and adapted to close the opening in said neck, and a brush provided with a handle and secured within said cover, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 29th day of July, 1895.
WILLIAM THOMAS WILLIAMS.
