Be it known that I, ISAAC PACHNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Caps, of which the following is a specification.

In such head-gear as bicycle or outing or other caps it is at times customary to have the cap-front lowered down on top of the vizor or raised from the latter. Fastenings are frequently used for holding the cap-front drawn down to the vizor but such fastenings are objectionable, as among other things they involve an unfastening or fastening operation as the cap-front is to be raised or to be secured in drawn-down position.

The object of this invention is to provide means for readily securing the cap-front in lowered as also in raised position without any hooking or fastening or detaching operation being required, and the invention resides in the novel features of construction set forth in the following specification and claim, and illustrated in the annexed drawings, in which Figure 1 is a sectional side elevation of a cap with its front drawn down. Fig. 2 is a like view showing the cap-front raised. Fig. 3 is a section along 50 0:, Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a section along 'y'y, Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a detail view of a holder.

In order to enable those skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will now describe the same in detail, referring to the drawings, wherein The numeral 1 indicates the flexible crown of a cap; 2, a lining; 3, a sweat-band, and 4 a vizor.

The crown of the cap may be made of cloth, or any other flexible fabric ordinarily used in the manufacture of caps having flexible crowns. The front portion of the flexible crown is provided with aholding-flap 7 ,which is approximately crescent-shaped, as shown in Fig. 5, and has its concaved edge sewed, stitched, or otherwise attached to the crown in juxtaposition to the inner edge of the 'vizor. This holding-flap is designed to be folded upon the upper side of the vizor to hold the front flexible portion of the crown in the depressed position shown in Fig. 1. approximately perpendicular position to hold the flexible front portion of the crown in an approximately perpendicular position, as shown in Fig. 2. The holding-flap is flexible and preferably elastic. It may be composed of buclcram or cardboard; and the connection of the concaved edge of the holding-flap with the crown is preferably secured through the medium of a strip of muslin, or similar material, as at 8. It will be obvious, however, that the concaved edge of the holding-flap can be otherwise secured. The holding-flap is located between the fabric composing the flexible crown and the fabric composing the lining 2; but of course the lining is not indispensable.

The connection of the concaved edge of the holding-flap with the crown must be such that the holding-flap can be folded or turned.

When the holding-flap is folded or turned down upon the upper side of the vizor, the flap, owing to its flexibility or elasticity, will conform to the curvature of the upper side of the vizor, while when the holding-tongue is raised it will snap or bend into a reverse curved line.

The holding-flap, arranged in the manner described and shown, provides a very simple device for holding the front portion of the flexible crown either raised or lowered, and the flap also serves to give a proper shape or rounding form to the cap when its front portion is lowered, as well as when it is raised.

What-I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A cap having a vizor, and a flexible crown provided at its front portion with a flexible crescent-shaped holding-flap, the concaved edge of which is attached to the crown in juxtaposition to the inner edge of the vizor, said flap being foldable down upon the vizor or to an approximately perpendicular position for holding the front portion of the crown low- W.
