FASTENING FOR WINDOW-SASH.
Specication of Letters Patent No. 5,624, dated June 18, 1848.
To all whom i may concern.'
Be it known that I, WILLIAM S. MCLEAN, of Allegheny City, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement on Sash-Stoppers; and I do declare that the following is a full, clear, and eXact description of the construction and operation oit' the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making part of this specilication, in which- Figure l represents one mode of applying the eccentric cam and lever to window sash with the stopper applied to window sash all being drawn to full size.

gA is a metal plate, with an oblong hole as seen in Fig. 2, it has also cast on one edge at right angle to the face the projection B, through which is a hole to receive a rivet which forms the fulcrum of the lever C. Cn
raised, the short diameter of the eccentric cam presents itself to the edge of the sash, and no resistance is opposed to the sash raising, but when you let go of the sash, its' friction against the cam together with the weight of the lever brings down the long diameter of the eccentric, so as to bear hard against the sash, forcing it against the opposite side of the frame until the friction ot' the whole be equal to the weight of the sash, and of course keeps it suspended to any point desired. i Fig. 3 is another mode of applying the stopper, dispensing with the metal plate and being .simply attached to the sash by means of a screw which forms the fulcrum, the cam bearing against the sash strip K, it needs no further description, as it can be perfectly understood by the drawing. To lock the sash down the long end of thelever is placed into a notch cut into the sash strip K, as represented by the dotted lines.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The application of the eccentric cam in combination with the metal plate for the purpose and in the manner described as a sash stopper or suspender.
2. I also claim as my invention the stopper as described in Fig. 5.
