WILLIAM IRELAND BLAOKMAN, OF COLUMBUS, MISSISSIPPI.
IMPROVEMENT IN SASH-I- IOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 132,432, dated October 22, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM I. BLAGKMAN, of Columbus, in the county of Marion and State of Mississippi, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Sash Fasteners; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawing is a representation of a view of my invention applied; Fig. 2 is asectional view of the same, and Figs. 3, 4, and 5 are detail views.
This invention has relation to sash-fasteners; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of the sliding pressureplate with its ribbed flange and means for connection with the eccentric-lever or operatingcam, as hereinafter set forth.
In the accompanying drawing illustrating this invention, the letter A designates the window-jamb, and B the sash. In order to obviate as much as possible the effect of the friction on the wooden parts it is well to let into the sash a plate, a, of brass or other suitable metal, which plate should be provided with a central cylindrical projection extending into the wood, and perforated to receive the end of the pivot-screw I). G represents the sliding plate, of semicircular or other suitable form, provided with a straight flange, 0, next the jamb of the window. This flange is provided with transverse ribs or studs k to give it a hold on the jamb when forced against the same by the action of the eccentric. The open. ing 0 in this plate, through which the pivotscrew passes, is made sufficiently large to al low for the requisite play of said plate, and around said opening, and concentric therewith, is a circular channel or groove, 42. D represents the cam-lever, consisting of an arm, E, having a button or handle, m, and on the under side of the end through which the screw I) passes is formed an annular rib or tenon, u, eccentric in its relation to the axis of the pivot-screw, and designed to engage with the circular groove 72 in the sliding plate. In order to regulate the depth to which the screw should enter without binding the parts an enlargement or shoulder, z, is formed on the pivot-screw next its head, and to prevent the arm of the eccentric from being turned too far in either direction a projection is made on the under side of said arm, which acts as a stop by coming in contact with the edge of the sliding plate.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The sash-fastener, consisting of the sliding plate 0 with its ribbed pressure-flange c and circular groove n, the arm D with eccentric tenon a, and the pivot screw 1), substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM IRELAND BLAOKMAN.
