SUSPEND ER-RACK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Application filed August 19, 1895.
To czZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDWARD K. ZARING, a citizen of the United States,residing at Bloomington, in the county of Monroe and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in SuspendenRacks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
Hy invention is an improvement in displayracks for suspenders; and it consists in the novel features hereinafter described, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which illustrate one form in which I have contemplated embodying my invention, and said invention is fully disclosed in the following description and claim.
Referring to the drawings, Figure l represents a perspective view of my improved display-rack. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing a number of pairs of suspenders held in said rack. Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the manner of disengaging any desired pair of suspenders from the rack.
The object of my invention is to provide a display-rack for holding a number of pairs of suspenders which will allow each pair to be inspected and also allow any pair of the number to be instantly removed from the rack when desired.
My improved display-rack consists of a backing plate or frame A, consisting, preferably, of a metal plate, as shown, provided with a suitable aperture or attaching device by means of which it may be supported. The plate A is provided with a pair of parallel arms 13 B, extending perpendicularly to the plate A for engaging the narrowed portion of the suspenders, and said arms have their outer ends bent inward toward each other, as shown at Z) Z), to prevent the suspenders from slipping out from between said arms. Below the arms B is a third arm 0, which I term the retaining-arm, for engaging the suspenders in the portion between the diverging shoulderstraps thereof and supporting them so that they cannot be disengaged from the arms B B without first being disengaged from arm 0.

The retaining-arm C has its outer end 0 preferably curved upward nearly into the plane of the arms B, and the end of the arm 0 will be near the ends I) h of the arms B B.
In Fig. 2 I have shown the manner of placing the suspenders S upon the rack. The narrowed portion 8 is placed between the arms B B, and if the suspenders are provided at the narrowed portion with a metal ring or loop, as many suspenders are, this loop (indicated at s in the drawings) will rest upon the arms B B, as shown. The shoulder-straps s s of the suspenders hang down on either side of the retaining-arm C, which engages the narrowed portion of the suspenders between said shoulder-straps All of the suspenders are held so as to be readily examined.
\Vhen it is desired to remove any particular pair of suspenders from the display-rack, one of its shoulder-straps s is passed over the arm C, as shown in Fi 3, and the narrowed portion 8 is turned edgewise between the arms B B, when the suspenders can be readily drawn downward and so removed. They can be replaced in the reverse manner. In case a pair of suspenders should be accidentally turned, so as to partially disengage the arms B B, they will still be held in place by the retaining-arm C.
It will be understood that I may use this rack for any articles other than suspenders to which its use is adapted.
lVhat I claim, and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is-
A display-rack for suspenders comprising a supporting-plate provided with a pair of parallel arms having their outer ends provided with inwardly-extending portions andthe retaining-arm located below said parallel arms and in line with a point intermediate the same said retaining-arm having an upwardly-extending portion, substantially as described.
