BERTHA COURTNAY, OF FILER, IDAHO.
GARMENT-HANGER.
Application filed June 5, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BERTHA COURTNAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Filer, in the county of Twin Falls and State of Idaho, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Hangers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to garment hangers and has for its principal object to provide a garment hanger for supporting hats, coats, gloves and the like.
Another object of the invention is to provide a garment hanger which may be con structed of a single piece of wire, thus avoiding the necessity of welding or otherwise fastening the several parts together.
A further object of the invention is to provide a garment hanger wherein the glove supporter may be removed and the device used independently thereof.
lVith these and other objects in View, the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts which will be fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a garment hanger constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a side view in elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view on line 33 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view on line 44 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings by characters of reference the numeral 1 designates the screw point formed at one terminal of the wire which is arranged to be threaded into the wall or other support to hold the device in place. The enlarged end of the screw point is extended as at 2 and bent upwardly as at 3 and thence looped back upon itself as at 4: and projects downwardly as at 5 and rearwardly as at 6 in parallel relation to the member 2 to the point 7 where it turns downwardly as clearly illustrated. The portions 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 form the top supporting element for the device which is designated generally by the numeral 8. The vertical standard of the device is designated generally by the numeral 9 and comprises the extension 10 of the portion 7 provided intermediate its ends with the outwardly bent portions 11. The lower end of the ex- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 12, 1916.
Serial No. 32,386.
tension 10 is bent outwardly and upwardly as at 12 and then looped back upon itself as at 13 and thence downwardly and inwardly as at let which downwardly and inwardly bent portion terminates in a vertical extension 15 having formed intermediate its ends a suitable enlargement similar to the enlargement 11 which cooperates therewith forming an opening for the reception of the supporting screw. The member 15 together with the member 10 comprises the standard 9 and the upper terminal of the member 15 is bent outwardly as at 16 and is held in place by means of a clip as will be more fully hereinafter described.
The glove supporting element is designated generally by the numeral 17 and comprises the parallel bars 18, the upper ends of which are joined by the loops 19 and the lower ends of these bars are joined by the loops 20 which loops aline with the screw receiving opening formed in the standard 9. It will thus be seen that the screw 21 not only holds the standard in place but also forms a support for the glove receiving clip. The coat hanger is designated generally by the numeral 22 and is formed by the outwardly bent portion 12, the loop 13 and the inwardly bent portions 14 as clearly illustrated in the drawings.
The clip for holding the upper end of th member 15 in place and retaining the bars 2, 6, 10 and 15 is designated generally by the numeral 22 and comprises the bodies 23 provided with the bent back edges 24 which overlie their respective bars. The bodies 23 are joined by the curved portions 25 and extend in plane at right angles to each other as clearly shown in the drawings.
The clip for holding the bars 10 and 15 in parallel relation is designated generally by the numeral 26 and comprises a body 27 provided with the side walls 28, the edges of which terminate in the curved portions 29. which hook beneath the bars 10 and 15 and hold the same against movement. A suitable central aperture is formed in the body and is arranged for the reception of the screw 21 hereinbefore referred to.
It will be apparent from the foregoing that in use the device is applied in the usual way by threading the hook 1 into a suitable standard or support and swinging the whole around until the proper position is reached whereupon the screw 21 is placed through the opening in the body 27 and 1t Wlll be evident that the device will be rigidly held in place. The hat may be then hung on the hat supporting element 8 and the gloves pressed between the glove supporting ele ment 7 and the standard 9 and the coat may be hung on the member 22 and it will thus be seen that a support for each article of wearing apparel is provided. It is also evident that the several articles are within easy reach when it is desired to remove the same and the necessity of searching for any particular article is eliminated.
lVhile in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention, it is to be understood that such changes may be made in the combination and arrangement of parts as will fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
lVhat is claimed is 1. A hat and coat hook comprising a double wire standard having the lower terminal bent forwardly and upwardly to present .a coat hook, said standards provided intermediate their enos with circular ofli'set portions, a horizontal hat hook connected with one of the wires of the standards and having the forward terminal turned upwardly and extending rearwardly beyond said standards and pointed to provide a support for the hook, and a glove supporting member having one end connected to the standards and in alinement with the offset portion, means extending through the glove supporting member and the standards for rigidly supporting the same to a support.
2. A hat and coat hook comprising a double wire standard having the lower terminals bent forwardly and upwardly to present a coat hook, said standard provided intermediate its end with olfset circular portions to receive a screw therethrough, a hori zontal hat hook connected with one of the wires of the standard andv having the forward terminal turned upwardly and extended rearwardly beyond said standard and provided with a point for the embedding of the same into a support, a glove supporting member comprising a loop wire having one end arranged on the standard and in alinement with the offset portions, and a fastening member extending through the loop end of the support and through the offset portion of the standard securing the same to a support, said pointed end of the horizontal hat hook and the fastening member extending through the standard securing the standard in facial engagement with a support and reinforcing means carried by the standard.
In testimony whereof I aflix mysignature in presence of two witnesses.
