Description

A. MALSKN.
COM BINED COAT AND SKIRT HANGER.
APPLICATION FILED NOV-15,1916.
Patented Nov. 20, 1917.
ALBERT MAL-SIN, OF NEW YORK} 'N'.
' GGMBINED ooe'reivn SKIRTI-IANGEB.
Application filed November 15; 1916.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT MALSIN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined "/oat and Skirt Hangers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My present invention is concerned with a hanging device for supporting various articles of wearing apparel, and more particularly a combined coat and skirt hanger. The object of the invention is to unite in a single simple device suitable means for holding a ladys coat so that it will not wrinkle or be injured, and simultaneously carrying a ladys skirt, the device being suitably constructed and provided with appliances whereby the double result may be properly attained; and the invention also comprises numerous details and, peculiarities in the construction, arrangement, and combination of the various parts, substantially as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing illustrating my invention:
Figure 1 is a side view of my improved combined skirt and coat hanger.
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan or edge view of the same.
Fig. 8 is a cross-section on the line 3, 8 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a cross-section on the line 4, 4 of Fig. 1.
Similar characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the different figures of the drawing.
1 denotes a curved main member terminating at each end in the arms 4:, which serve as shoulder supports for the coat. Preferably the central member 1 is made tolerably thick and usually thicker than the balance of the device so that it may be more substantial and may have a suflicient body to receive and hold a hook 2, which may be of any suitable kind and which preferably is passed through a central vertical hole in the main member 1 and provided with a nut or other device at its lower end, said hook 2 projecting upwardly and being bent in such Specification of Letters Patent.

form that it may be readily engaged with a closet hook, clothes tree, or other support on which it is hung.
One of the 4:, as for example, the right one, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, is preferably made thicker than the other arm 5, as for example the left arm, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. This enables the arm 4 to be provided with a hook 3 screwed thereinto while the other arm 5 is considerably thinner than the end of arm 42. and is indented or notched at 6 so as to form a hook device in the lower thin edge of arm 5 directly opposite to the screw hook 3 and occupying a position about the same distance from the hook 2 as does the hook 3.
It will be evident that the arms L and 5 extending outwardly from the central member 1 on a curved or other line will conveniently perform the function of holding the shoulders of the coat when the latter has been placed thereover in the ordinary manner; also that the skirt which is usually provided with loops or tabs can be hung under the device which I have already described, said loops engaging the hooks 3 and 6, the two loops being sufficient to hold the skirt in proper place, and ordinarily such skirts as to be thus supported will be provided with at least two loops so that by the use of this combined coat and skirt hanger I am enabled to carry the two articles of wearing apparel, the coat and the skirt, both conveniently upheld, so that they will be neatly cared for in a hanging position.
Obviously very many changes may be made in the precise construction and arrangement of the parts, and I do not wish to be restricted to make one arm thicker than the other or in differentiating the books that support the skirt as it is not necessary that one should be a detachable screw hook and the other an integral hook cut in the edge of the material of the hanger, for both hooks may be screwed in or both may be cut out of the edge of the hanger, as may be preferred, without going beyond the scope of my invention; and I, therefore, reserve the right to make all such needful changes as may be permissible without going beyond the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, What for the skirt, said central member having I claim as new and desire to secure by Let also a comparatively thin arm for holding ters Patent, is: the othershoulder of the coat and provided 10 In a coat and skirt hanger, the combina- With a notch for engaging the skirt, 5 tion of a central member having a com- In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my paratively heavy arm for holding one shoulsignature. der of the coat and provided with a hook ALBERT MALSIN.
