"No.'886,042. PATENTED APR. 28, 1908.
W. DE PREAR.
GARMENT HANGER.
APPLICATION FILED MAR. 12, 1908.
WALTER DE FREAR, OF ALBANY, NEW YORK.
GARMENT-HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 28, 1908.
' Application filed March 12, 1908. Serial No. 420,573.
To all whm'n it may concern.
Be it known that l, l/VALTER DE FREAK, of Albany, in the county of Albany and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garinent-l-langers;
and I hereby declare that the following is a 'l'ull, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
This invention is an improvement in garment hangers, especially designed for coats, trousers and skirt hangers, and can be used for hanging entire suits of clothes, as it embodies both a coat supporter, and a skirt and trousers supporter.
The object of the invention is to provide a hanger which will keep the garments in shapely condition, and which will accommodate the collar of a coat hung thereon at the point of suspension, without causing unsightly creases therein; and will support the shoulders of such coat so as to maintain the shapeliness of the garment; and on which trousers or skirts can be hung either by the foot-bands or waist-bands.
As shown, the hanger comprises a yoke, 1
preferably made of wood, over which a coat pan he hung in the usual manner. Thls yoke is provided with a suspending hook rod of peculiar l'orm. see Fig. 2, preferably made of wire, and having its lower part or shank 2 translixing the yoke at center thereof, and preha'ably attached thereto .by having its ower end bent upwardly and its extremity embedded in the underside of the yoke, as shown at 2*. Just above the yoke the hookrod has an arc-shaped collar receiving return-bend 2 the lower member of which is about in the same plane as the top of the yoke, said arc-shaped bend lying at right angles to the plane oi the yoke, and in the best position to receive the collar of a coat hung upon the yoke; the arc-shaped bend being especially formed and designed for this purpose. From the extremity of the upper member of the return bend, rises the hook proper, indicated at 2, which is formed preferably in a plane at right angles to that of the return-bend 2 and in substantially the vertical plane of the yoke 1.
Under the yoke 1 is a suspending rod lying in the same vertical plane as the yoke, and having its major portion 3 straight and preferably slightly longer than the yoke. At the ends of this major portion 3 the ends of the rod are bent upwardly and slightly inwardly, toward the adjacent overhanging ends of the yoke, as at 3 then the ends of the rods are bent inwardly, as at 3", almost parallel with part 3, and then again bent sharply upward and outward, as at 3 the extremities of parts 3 engaging inclined sockets or holes 1" in the underside and near the ends of yoke 1, as shown. In this way the suspending rod is firmly attached to the yoke, and owing to the inclination of the parts 3 is practically rigidly connected with the yoke; and an important feature of the structure is that the parts 3 form supports or shapers for the shoulders of a coat hung upon the yoke and prevent collapse of the shoulders.
On the straight portion 3 of the suspending rod, are slidable spring-clamps 4, which can be adjusted to.and from each other, and by which trousers or skirts can be suspended from the rod, as desired. If desired the clamps 4 can be slid out to the ends of the part 3, and a folded garment hung upon and over thepart 3.
A number of garments can be hung upon this improved hanger, and each will be kept in neat and proper condition.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A garment hanger comprising a yoke, a suspending hook connected therewith, and a suspending rod longer. than the yoke and be low the yoke, having its end bent upwardly to form shoulder-sup orts for the garment, and the extremities oi the upturned portions being connected to the yoke, substantially as ,described.
2. A garment hanger comprising a yoke, a 105 sus ending hook connected centrally there-' wit and having a return bend above the yoke, and a hook above the bend; and a suspending rod below the yoke, having its ends ent upwardly to form shoulder-sup )orts for 1 10 the garment, and the extremities o the upturned portlons'bemg outwardly inclined and upwardly and inwardly inclined portions at the ends of the straight portion forming sup.
ports for the shoulders of the garment, and
also having outwardly inclined portions, at.
the upper ends of the shoulder supporting portions, said outwardly inclined portions engaging sockets in the underside of the yoke.
4; The herein described garment hanger comprising a yoke; a suspending rod, underlying the yoke and having a straight ortion projecting beyond the ends of the yo e, and
upwardly and inwardly inclined portions at the ends of the straight portion, and inwardly extendin portions at the upper ends of the shou der supporting portions, and outwardly inclined portions at the extremities of the inwardly extending portions, said outwardly inclined ortions engaging sockets in the underside ot the yoke; and suspending hook attached to the yoke, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
