and each having at its respective ends a shank,

which is formed with a resilient eye, and the eyes being adapted to receive the terminals of a pin, the arrangement of the parts being such that the eyes will yield to permit the movement of the sections on the pins and will contract to hold the sections at the desired adjustment.

The invention will be fully described hereinafter and its scope defined in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of a portion of an umbrella-stick having my improvements applied. Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is an elevation showing the sections in the act of adj ustmeht.

In carrying out my invention the stick a is provided with a transversely-extending pin b, the ends of which are respectively projected from opposite sides of the stick and are squared, as best shown in Figs. 1 and Each terminal of the pin 1) performs the function of a separate pin, as will be seen.

Each section of the clamp comprises a semicircular bodyportion c, the terminals of which are respectively formed with shanks (Z, and these shanks terminate in eyes 6. Two of the eyes 6 cooperate with each terminal of the pin Z), and the eyes are constructed of resilient material, so that they may yield and return according to the requirements of the operation of the device. The arrangement of the parts is such that when the sides of the eyes are parallel with the sides of the pin the eyes will be contracted on the pin and will hold the clamp-sections firmly, as shown in Fig. 1. WVhen, however, the sections are moved, as shown by full lines in Fig. 3, the inner sides of the eyes being moved with diagonal relation to the sides of the pin, the first-named sides will forcibly bind against the corners of the pin and the eye will be enlarged to permit the movement of the sections, and as this movement continues and the sides of the eyes become parallel with the sides of the pin the eyes will be permitted to return to their normal size and to snugly engage the rod, which engagement will hold the sections in the position shown by full lines in Fig. 1 or that shown by dotted lines in Fig. 2.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a rib-tip clamp, the combination with an umbrella-stick, of a pin projected from the stick and having a plane side, and a clamp proper having a resilient eye embracing the pin and having a plane side yieldingly held against the plane side of the pin, substantially as described.

2. In a rib-tip clamp, the combination with an umbrella-stick, of a pin projecting through the same and extending from opposite sides thereof, the terminals of the pin having plane sides, and two clamp-secti0ns, each having a body portion adapted for engagement with the ribs and having two shanks, each shank having a yielding eye, the eyes receiving the terminals of the pin and conforming to the cross-sectional shape of the terminals of the pin, substantially as described.
