Description

(No Model.) -2 Sheets-Sheet 1.
A. BELAIRE.
SHOE.
No. 554,229. Patented Feb. 11, 189 6.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALFRED EELAIEE, or NORTH ADAMS, MASSAoHUsETTS, ASSIGNOR TO JOSEPH T. YON, OF SAME PLACE, AND NELSON YON, or OLARKSBURG,
MASSACHUSETTS.
SHOE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 554,229, dated February 11, 1896.
Application filed November 22, 1895. Serial No. 569,804. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED BELAIRE, a citizen of the United States, residing at North Adams, in the county of Berkshire and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoes; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, ref- .erence being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The special object of the invention is to make a shoe-upper in one piece and cut it out, as hereinafter described.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a plan View of the pattern; Fig. 2, a vertical section; Fig. 3, a side elevation, and Fig. 4 a modification of the pattern.
In the drawings, A represents the toe, B the instep, and O the back of the upper. In the back 0, I make two vertical cuts 0 c on the curves 0 0 extending down, preferably, to the counter 0 This leaves a tongue D, which is sewed on the lines at d. The effect of this is to make a crimp in the back C, so that the leather will hug the foot on each side of the tongue, and thus make a neat as well as an accurate fit.
The lining E on the inside of tongue D and the interior facing-piece F are sewed with the tongue to the sides 0 0 In Fig. A of the drawings is shown a modified form of the one-piece upper, the toe of one end being made double, so that the part a may be folded over and sewed to the portion I) at the other end of pattern. The edge lines a b are of course made to correspond.
Having thus described all that is necessary to a full understanding of my invention, what I claim as new, and'desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-- 1. A one-piece shoe-pattern formed of the toe part A, instep B, the back 0 and tongue D, the latter being sewed on the lines cl d of the sides 0 c as shown and described.
2. A shoe-pattern having the back 0 provided with two vertical cuts 0, 0, having the curves 0 c and extending down to the counter 0 thus forming a tongue D as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALFRED EELAIEE.
