SANDAL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 1'7, 1914..
Application filed October 21, 1913. Serial No. 796,504.
To all whom it may concern:
' Be it known that I, MADS LINDBEnG, a subject of the King of Denmark, residing at Boston, in the county. of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Sandals; and I do hereby declare the follow ng tobe a full, clear, and exact descriptlon of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to sandals designed to be worn with a short sock or stocking in which the toe members of the stocking are made as separate inclosures similar to a glove and one of the principal objects of the to provide a sandal to be used A sandal made in accordance with my invention serves to relieve the feet after they have been confined within a heavy shoe during the day. 7
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a top plan View of a foot having thereon a gloved sock designed to be worn with the sandal, Fig. 2 is a topplan View of the foot with the sandal thereon, and Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the sandal.
Referring to the drawing the numeral 1 designates a cloth like sock or stocking which preferably extends up to the ankle.
The sandals to be worn with the stocking referred to, comprise a sole 8, which may be provided with alow heel Qif desired. The sole 8 is comparatively broad and designed to fit the bottom of the foot and provide a firm support therefor. Connected to the heel and shank portion of' the sole is the counter or quarter member 10 which extends around the heel and in a curved line to a point 11 immediately in front of the shank portion of the sole. Integrally connected with the quarter 10 is an instep strap 12 provided with a buckle 13 to assist in holding the sandal upon the foot.
As shown the sandal is entirely without a vamp and extending toward the instep strap 12 is a toe strap 15 which is narrowed as at 16, to pass between the great toe 3 and the next toe 4 as shown in Fig. 2. The toe strap 15 is secured at its terminal end to the sole 8 at the required point.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that a sandal made in accordance with my invention can only be utilized with a sock or stocking having separate compartments for the great toe and the next adjoining toe because the toe strap 15 must extend between these toes and with an ordinary stocking the material would be gathered at this point and render the sandal very uncomfortable.
My sandals insure proper ventilation of the feet and are extremely simple and serve to relieve the feet from the pressure of geavy shoes worn during a portion of the What is claimed is The hereindescribed sandal adapted to be worn with a stocking having separate toe members, said sandal comprising a sole having a broad toe portion and conforming substantially to the bottom of the foot, a quarter extending around the heel portion of the sole and to the front portion of the arch or shank of the sole, said-quarter having an integral, adjustable instep strap, and a toe strap extending forward from the instep strap, said toe strap being narrowed at its front end and secured to the sole at the point between the great toe and the next toe of the wearer.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
