SPECIFICATION forming'part of Letters Patent No. 550,500, dated November 26, 1895.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, HERMAN T. GAY, of the city of Baltimore and State of Maryland, have invented certain Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a specification.

Referring now to the drawings, A is the easing of the toy, consisting of a strip of sheet metal, preferably tin-plate, folded so that the sides will stand apart, as seen particularly in Fig. 3, which shows the casing alone. The ends of this strip are lapped and may be soldered together, if desired.

B is a bar consisting of a strip of sheet metal, preferably tin-plate, with its ends folded so as to increase the thickness, as shown particularly in Fig. 4. V

O is an endless rubber band, which is stretched around the bar B and the whole inserted in the casing A.

The length of the bar and the thickness of its ends are such that when the several parts of the toy are assembled the rubber band will be held closely against the inner surface of the casing. In Fig. 2 the parts are somewhat separated to better illustrate the relative positions of the same.

' When the toy is applied to the lips and blown through, the two side sections of the rubberband are caused to vibrate and a sound is produced. The sound is varied with the pressure applied.

I claim as my invention- 1. In a toy of the character described, the combination of the casing, the bar with its ends folded so as to increase their thickness, and the rubber band. stretched around the said bar and held closely in contact with the inner surface of the casing, substantially as specified.

2. In a toy of the character described, the combination of the sheet metal casing, the sheet metal bar with its ends folded so as to increase its thickness and the endless rubber band which is stretched over the bar and by it held closely in contact with the inner surface of the casing, substantially as specified.
