Description
F. G. STONE. I PNEUMATIC TOY.
No. 530,909. Patented Dec. 11,1894} UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANCIS G. STONE, OF LOGKPORT, NEW YORK.
PN EU MATlC TOY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 530,909, dated December 11, 1894. Application filed December 23, 1893- Serial No.494,607. (No model.)
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in toys and more particularly to that class known as pneumatic toys, the object of the invention being to provide a toy which will amuse, the use of which will at the same time expand the lungs and produce a wholesome effect.
Furthermore the invention has for its object the construction of a device of this class that will be simple, durable and easily operated.
Furthermore, the invention contemplates an advertising medium, as will be hereinafter explained.
The invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more particularly described and specifically pointed out in the claim.
In describing'the invention in detail, reference is had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification and wherein like lotters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, in which- Figure 1. is a side view of the invention in osition for operation. Fig. 2. is a top view of the same. Fig. 3. is a top view of the tube with the end broken off to illustrate the manner in which the advertising feature may be utilized. Fig. 4., is a top view omitting the advertising and illustrating the manner of attaching the sounder.
In the drawingsz-A, represents a flexible pneumatic tube having formed on its upper .applied to surface any suitable design and on its lower face, advertising matter.
B, represents a cone-shaped mouth-piece, secured to the end of the pneumatic tube, while the opposite end is provided with a whistle or sounder, 0. (Shown in Fig. 5. of the drawings.)
Operation:-When it is desired to operate the toy, the pneumatic tube is coiled, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings, thereby forcing the air from the tube. Then the month-piece is the lips and the air is forced into thereby inflating and causing the same to uncoil and to assume an extended position, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4 of the drawings, at the same time causing a rattle when uncoiling and when extended a whisthe tube,
tling or other sound, as will be readily understood. It will also be noted that various designs may be produced in lieu of the pneumatic tube, such as birds, animals, figures and the like.
The toy is preferably constructed of heavy paper or rubber,.yet any suitable material may be employed for the purpose.
In view of the foregoing description, it must be observed that various changes may be made in the detail construction of the toy, without departing from the general idea involved.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to obtain by Letters Patent, is
A pneumatic toy consisting of a flexible tube having at one extremity a suitable mouth-piece and at the opposite extremity a whistleor sounder, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
