LOUIS REIOI-IERT, OF SORAN TON, PENNSYLVANIA.
TOY FOR EMITTING SOUND.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 476,024, dated May 31, 1892. Application filed November 24, 1891. gerial No. 412,971- (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS REICI-IERT, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Scranton, in the county of Lack-awanna and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys for Emitting Sound; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exactdescription of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in toys for emitting sounds which can be conveniently held in the hand and a hammer actuated so as to strike a gong by pulling a cord or string.
The invention consists in the novel construction hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a toy constructed in accordance 'with my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective View, the gong being detached or re moved.
In the said drawings the reference-numeral 1 designates a disk, of wood or other suitable material, provided at points upon its periphcry with u pwardly-extendi n arms 2, to which is secured a gong 3. This disk and gong are provided with central apertures, through which passes a rotatable shaft 4, having a weighted ball or sphere 4 at one end, the other end above the gong being provided with a retaining-nut (3.
Secured to the upper side of the disk 1 is a bent spring 7, curved around the shaft t and at its free end provided with a hammer 8. The shaft 4: is provided with a trip-rod 9, adapted to engage with and vibrate the spring 7 when the shaft is rotated by means of the string or cord 10, which is secured thereto.
The operation is as follows: The diisk 1' is grasped by the hand and theshaft 4 rotated so as to wind the cord 10 thereon. By giving said cord a quick pull the shaft is rotated, and the trip-rod 9, engaging with the spring 7, will vibrate the same and cause the hammer to strike the gong. The momentum of the weighted shaft will also rewind the cord thereon,s0 that upon again pulling the latter the shaft is rotated in the opposite direction, thus causing an intermittent motion to be given thereto and the gong to be correspondingly sounded.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is The combination, with the disk, the gong secured thereto, and the bent spring secured thereto, having a hammer at its free end, of the rotatable shaft journaled in said disk and gong and provided with a weighted ball or sphere, and a trip-rod secured to said. shaft,
. adapted to engage with and trip said spring,
substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereunto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LOUIS REICHERT.
