Specicaton of Letters Patent.
Patented l une 22, 19115.
Application filed February 19, 1913. Serial No. 749,451.
T0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN L. THOMPSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at El Centro, in the county of Imperial, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys; and do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention is directed to improve ments in toys, and has for its object to provide an article of this type which when rapidly rotated will produce a whistling or musical sound.
A further object of the invention is to provide a toy of this character which is rapidly rotated through the medium of acord or the like.
`With these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combinations and arrangements of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device. Fig. 2 is an edge view. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a detail sectional view showing a slightly modified form of the invention.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a disk having secured to its opposite sides and centrally thereof plates 2, which serve to reinforce the central portion of the disk.
The plates 2 and disk 1 are formed with registered perforations 3 and 4, respectively, and through which are passed a cord 5 which serves to readily rotate the disk.
Formed upon the edges of the disk 1 are tubes 6, said tubes being arranged in off- Copies of this patent may be obtained for setlrelation, and upon alternate sides of the is r.
. rihe tubes 6 are of such length that spaces 7 are provided between the adjacent ends of the same so as to permit unobstructed entrance of air thereinto as the disk is rotated.
Mounted in each tube 6 is a whistle 8, which gives forth a musical sound when the disk is rotated through the medium of the cord 5, which is readily accomplished by the winding and unwinding of the cord upon opposite sides of the disk, which rotates the same in an opposite direction.
ln Fig. ll of the drawing the tubes are shown provided with reeds 9, in place of the whistles S, which when used produce a constant buzzing sound.
That is claimed is 1. In a toy of the class described, a disk, a plurality of arcuate tubular members formed integrally with the said disk and lying entirely within the periphery thereof, the alternate members being arranged on opposite sides of the said disk, and sound producing devices in the said tubular memers.
2. In a toy of the class described, a disk, a plurality of tubular members formed integrally with the said disk and within the periphery thereof, and sound producing devices in the said tubular members.
3. In a toy of the class described, a disk, a plurality of concentric arcuate tubular members forming integral rolled extensions of the said disk, and sound producing devices located in the said tubular members.
ln testimony whereof, I affix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
