To all whom it may concern:
Be it'known that I, JAMES S. STEMONS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the eountyof Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sounding Toys; and I do hereby declare the f following to bea full, clear, and enact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to` which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letter-sand figures ofl reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
l.The object of this inventionl is to provide a novel sounding toy ofthe whirligig type, rotatable in reverse directions to produce a sound, or noise.

Referring -now in detail to the drawings, and first-to Figs. 1V and 2:

, Adapted to be seated between said disks is a core 3, circular in shape and disposed concentrically with respect to said disks 1, 1. The diameter of the core 3`is less than that of thedisks, so that there is a channel, or passage-way, 4 around said core. The core is provided with a circumferential recess` or notch, 5, in which is disposed a whistle 6 with the inlet end thereof disposed adjaent apertures 77 in the flanges 2 of the disks 1. The exit end of said whistle is out of contact with the bottom 8 of said recess 5. Cords 10 are attached to said eyes, one of said cords to each of said eyes, and furnish means whereby, when the cord is twisted and pulled upon, the disks 1 willl be given a rapid rotary movement in one direction or the other, thus causing passage of air through the openings '7 to actuate the whistle 6. By alternately causing the cord to be twisted first inone direction and then in the other, the disksmay be given rotary movement in reverse directions.
Auxiliary sound-producing means are provided, and such means are herein shown as comprising a plurality of whistles 9,-in this instance foul-, carried by said shells 1, 1 and radially disposedl with reference to the core 3. Obviously, as the shells are rapidly rotated, air passes through the whistles 9, thus augmenting the noise produced by the whistle 6, disposed interiorlv of said shells.
Referring now in detail to Fig. 3; showing a slight modification of my invention:
T he only difference'between this form and that shown in Figs. 1 and 2 is that the whistles 9 of the devire of the preceding figures are omitted. In other respects, the device is precisely the same.

3 designates an annular core disposed interiorly ofthe disk 1. Interiorly of the shells are secured,'preferably to the flanges 2 thereof, clappers 11, 1l, of spring material, having one end thereof 12, secured to the inner surface of the flange 2. Each clapper 11 is bent adjacent said end 12, as shown at 13, so that the main portion of said member 11 is spaced from the flange 2. Each clapper 11 is provided at its free end with aweight 14, disposed adjacent to and normally out of contact with a metallic member 15, secured to the disks 1. Preferably, each member 15 is formed as an angle bar, one of the flanges thereof being secured to one of the disks 1. and the other flange being in the path of movement of the weight 14, as the clapper ll Vibl'ates back and forth.
The disks 1 are provided with the same means as shown in the devices of the preceding figures, namely cords, Vwhereby `in operation, when said cords are twisted and pulled upon said disks 1 will be rapidly revolved, whereby the vibration of the de-V vice and the flow of air in the annularpasl'ao Yl'what l claim to be new is: 1. It will be understood, of course,that the disks 1 are of metal and that the clap- Vpers 11,11 are also of metal.
