SOUNDING-T 1,384,334. Specification of Application filed May 29, To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, Gnrno ject of King of Italy, residing PrroNI', subat Rochester, State of New provements in Sounding-Toy WVheels, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to toys andaims to provide a novel form of musical wheel which may be rotated to produce pleasing sounds or notes.
Another object is the provision of novel means whereby the wheel may be rotated so that a child or other person may walk or run, causing the sound device to operate.
Another object is the provision of means for protecting the sound device from injury in the event of the wheel falling upon either side.
\Vith the above and other objects" in view, the invention includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fullydcscribed, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings: 7
Figure 1 is an elevation of the wheel.
F 2 is'a vertical sectional view of the same. y Referring specifically to the, drawings, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the wheel comprisesa disk 10 which is made of wood or other suitable material and is provided with a central opening 11. Extending through this opening is a pin 12 which is provided at one end with an eye 13 and at its opposite end with a member 14 by means o'twhich the pin is swiveled within the opening. Secured to the eye 13 is a chain or other flexible element 15 which carries at one end a handle 16. By this means the wheel may be rotated, the handle being firmly held, while the holder may walk or run. whereupon the 7 wheel will be rolled along the sidewalk or floor.
Secured to the'disk 10 and surrounding the opening 11 is a cup shaped member 17 and extending from beneath this member and secured to the disk 11 is a plurality of sound tubes 18.. These tubes are provided with openings 19 and have their outer open ends located in juxtaposition to gongs 20 carried by the disk 10. If desired these gongs may be of different tone so that when sounded in a manner hereinafter explained,
[ will be consecutively sounded.

will produce different notes. The gongsare I sounded during the rotation of the wheel by means of metallic balls 21101 similar devices WlllCll are retained within the grooves 18 and are movable therein by gravity as the wheel is rotated so that the gongs 20 In addition, the other sound devices in the form of 11911522 which are secured tothe" disk, these bells during the rotation of the wheel. a
In order to protect the sound device from injury in the event of the wheel fallingiupon its face and to provide arim upon which the wheel will travel, the disk 10 is surrounded by an annular metallic flange 2,3 which extends above'the heightfof the sound devices so asto provide their contact with the floor 5 or sidewalk and provides an open top: recep ch all of the are located. a 1
The invention is susceptible oftvarious changes in its form, proportions and minor detailsxof construction andthe right is here; ill-reserved make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims. 7 1
Having described the invention what is claimed is Q 1. A toyembodying a wheel formed of a disk, a relatively wide protecting flange surrounding the disk, a' plurality arranged sound tubes carried by the disk,
of mainly sound devices agonglocated. at the outer end of each-of the tubes, balls operating within the tubes for contact with the gongs when the wheel is a flexible element centrally connected to the wheel.
2. A toycomprising a wheel, a plurality of radially. arranged tubesfcarried by the wheel, asound element located at'the outer ends of each*of-the-itubesand movable elements within the tubes and adapted to contact with thesound element when the wheel 3. A toy' comprisinga wheel, a plurality of radially arranged perforated tubes carried thereby, a plurality of circumferentially arranged gongs located at the outer ends of the tubes, gravity controlled elements operating within the tubes for contact: with the gongs when the wheel isrotated."
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
